‘IRISH BLOOD’: A SEASON ONE FIRST IMPRESSION REVIEW OF AN ACORN DRAMA
Returning again to lead role, Alicia Silverstone stars in one of Acorn TVs new dramas Irish Blood. Benefitting from a familiar lead star and setting that is exciting, the two-episode premiere drop promises a sassy new heroine.
Irish Blood (2025) Acorn TV Review
Using her childhood rage over what her once heroic turned disappearing act father did to her mother, Fiona Murphey (Silverstone) has become a divorce lawyer. She is ruthless in business and lets no one get away with anything. Her personal life may be, well, awkward and messy, but she knows where she stands in her professional life.
Then, decades after he leaves, she receives a mysterious package from the father (Jason O’Mara) whom she hasn’t seen in all those years. When she calls the number attached, she instead hears a female voice sharing a message that her father left for her. Curious and wanting to fulfill her fantasy of confronting him, she takes a red eye and prepares to face him.
What she doesn’t expect is the many layers of secrets she has to first peel back before she can hope to find closure. Something she’ll now have to do without her father…
TV SERIES REVIEW | ‘THE MADAME BLANC MYSTERIES,’ SERIES FOUR: MORE SECRETS AND MYSTERY
‘IRISH BLOOD’: A SEASON ONE FIRST IMPRESSION REVIEW OF AN ACORN DRAMA. Review of the #AliciaSilverstone led drama from #AcornTV! #IrishBlood Share on XUnless I am very much mistaken, I think Irish Blood is possibly the most unusual Acorn TV original I’ve seen. Between Fiona’s dream sequences and the unique comingling of humor and drama, this one is unique. That said, this is also part of why this show is interesting. This original doesn’t follow the typical kind of mystery pattern and in order to be compelling, well, sometimes shows need to break away from the norm.
What will probably help this one earn an audience is Alicia Silverstone in the lead. She is known for her 90s comedy Clueless along with a number of other memorable roles. All of this is early impressions, yes, but so far, the drama is good. It has a mystery, but not a “crime drama” plot. It compels us to keep watching and ask what this all means and what is to come. (As an aside, the cop who interviews Fiona is hilarious. Teaming them up is possibly the best thing about the show when it comes to creating some lighthearted humor.) It’s also compelling to watch Silverstone’s adult Fiona struggle with loss vs hate, and truths she didn’t know which shaped her father’s life.
Based on these early impressions, this show is good. Certainly, this is worth watching if you enjoy Acorn TV dramas or are curious to see Alicia Silverstone in something else again.
