Like the same vein as their “off season” movies, Five Gold Rings is a nice little mystery that still feels cozy. The mystery is very much themed to Christmas not just through its decor, but also its story that takes, obviously, the ’12 Days of Christmas’ song as inspiration for its title. Beyond just this, there is the usual sweet moments between characters, and it’s fun seeing Holland Roden in another mystery. Her other one being Tipline Mysteries: Dial 1 for Murder There’s a nice connection between the leads; I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything, but really like Nolan in the leading man role. Also present is the usual connections of family, too.

Like one would anticipate from anything from Hallmark and particularly its mystery side, there are poignant reveals as the characters seek out the people who lost the items. This type of film tends to be a little too sentimental (and there is drama about a “lie”) for my taste, but just because its themes aren’t all to my liking doesn’t mean I cannot still appreciate the lovely moments, which this film has plenty of.
