Based on a trilogy of novels, Providence Falls: Chance of a Lifetime and its two sequels (set to air on the subsequent Saturdays) has been a three-part event Hallmark has shared a good deal about on social media. It’s being promoted as a kind of epic love story which a mostly new-to-Hallmark cast leading the way. It also has some unique transitions and decent world-building.
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERIES: DEATH AT THE DINER’ ONE SMART SLEUTH MAKES A RETURN!
For some reason, even though I’ve always read this as a story about reincarnation, I had an idea of this as a time travel romance. Knowing it’s not means that I’m less interested than I might have been given that I’m not into reincarnation as an idea or trope. I think this story is trying to do things a little differently so as not to feel or come across as “creepy” in any way, which I appreciate; I’ve seen some stories that don’t steer clear of this. The white office scenes are odd and yet I know for the genre, they fit. What I was curious to see is how Hallmark would do the period drama genre, and while the scenes visiting this era are pretty, I don’t think it fully embraces the genre.

The cast is unique for this and its genre, which we know (by now) I like. Evan Roderick is familiar, but I haven’t seen the second male lead or the heroine in anything much before this. Also, based on press stills, this film will have more than one Hallmark “cameo” so this is sure to also be a draw for longtime fans. While I have reservations, I will be curious to see how this all plays out and what will come in the second and third parts of this trilogy.

Content: this seems like it will have standard TV film fare. There is some tension as mysteries build and the characters experience danger. Someone falls from a great height and dies. Mysteries set up in the modern world as well as the past. People are chasing others. There is an implication that a man has a liaison/affair with a married woman. The show definitely has a more “sensual” exploration between the leads which may bother some. The film is TVPG.
