TEN BOOKS (SEEMINGLY) CODED AS THE LIFE OF TAYLOR SWIFT

When it comes to Taylor Swift, everyone knows her name. Likely everyone has also seen, even if they didn’t realize what it was, that Swift also has a big week which includes the release of her 12th album The Life of a Showgirl. That midnight drop will inspire midnight release parties and the October 3 – 5 limited run of The Life of a Showgirl documentary in select theaters. Taking all of this into consideration, we’re going to look at some of the creators who have been (seemingly) inspired by Taylor Swift’s life. The way we’re doing this is by looking at ten books inspired by the star aka Taylor Swift coded books. But I do have a couple “rules” of how I’m spinning this list.

TEN BOOKS (SEEMINGLY) CODED AS THE LIFE OF TAYLOR SWIFT 🎤 Looking at some books that seem to be (possibly) somewhat inspired by the life of #TaylorSwift. #TheLifeofaShowgirl Share on X

Instead of featuring books that mention Swift or perhaps use one of her song titles (and one must assume is inspired by her) as titles, I’m going to feature titles that seem to be inspired by the life of Taylor Swift. Let’s be honest, any story that has a pop princess as its lead has to be a little inspired by the record-breaker Taylor Swift. Of course, recent releases that have a football hero have to be inspired by Swift’s latest romance, too, right?

So, the rule is to look at novels that are about people liking Swift or characters who are musicians. Sadly, I haven’t read any of these, so I’m relying on my own supposition about the titles and the reviews these titles have. But given that Swift is known to or rumored to have penned songs inspired by books (like The Great Gatsby or Rebecca), I would think she’d find it interesting to see creatives write a good book inspired by her professional successes.

Let’s see what we find!

LIFE of TAYLOR SWIFT CODED BOOKS

WHEN in ROME, SARAH ADAMS

This novel, according to more than one review is like ‘Lavender Haze’ (the Swift song) only in book form. Another reviewer says that its leading lady is very Taylor Swift “coded.” The story is about Amelia, a superstar “princess of pop” who is burnt out so she disappears for a while and meets Noah, a man who runs the pie shop his grandmother left him. Goodreads

SOMEWHERE ONLY we KNOW, MAURENE GOO

I fibbed. When we started this I said I hadn’t read any of these, but I think I did read this one. It’s about a pop star who, unbeknownst to her, decides to trust a boy who is in her hotel on a tabloid job. All she wants is a little bit of freedom and yes, a hamburger, too! The good is as cute as it looks. Goodreads

SELLING OUT, MARTHA KEYES

This is about a musician star who, after “years of working” hard in the music industry, finally gets a tour in Europe. It follows Austin Sheppard and Mia Sawyer as they go on a European tour and try to work together long enough to make it through. Goodreads

FOR the RECORD, EMMA LORD

On Instagram, Lord says this novel has been on her mind since 2019. It’s a story about two musicians, both of whom are looking for another chance (for different reasons) as they work on respective new plans for their future careers. The story from there evolves into one about the only way they can save their careers is with an effort that requires they put out a “joint comeback album.” Reviewers also mention Taylor Swift in their reviews, so I’m guessing there is something of a Swift element in the storytelling. FIRST and FOREVER, LYNN PAINTER

This novel is set to be released in May of 2026 and no it isn’t about a pop star. But the hero is a football player, and it’s about a woman who is thrust into the spotlight when she has an incident with the team’s mascot. The book from there follows a paparazzi obsessed would-be romance with her and the teams star tight-end. Seems (maybe) a little bit coded to the TK spotlight love story, right? Goodreads

SOUNDS like LOVE, ASHLEY POSTON

This one has reviews that mention Swift, so I’m including it. It’s a book about two musicians (one a writer, the other a singer) and the relationship between them. Poston is also an author I see mentioned quite frequently. Goodreads

THE LOVE CHASE, EMILY SCHNEIDER

Our main dude character is the pop star in this! It’s about two people who knew each other as childhood besties and when Liam returns home, his manager decides that a faux marriage between Liam and Emma. So the normal thing to do, is to marry! The plot is one I’ve seen other places, and even read another about essentially the same (a girl pretend marries a Youtube star in order to have some financial stability) but the book looks and sounds cute still. Goodreads

13 DAYS of SUMMER, STEPHANIE KATE STROHM

Only recently did I run across this one, but it sounds fun. It’s about besties who go on a round trip to see a Taylor Swift concert. That alone feels very coded to Swift, but the title alone is also very much a Taylor Swift kind of book title. Goodreads

TRULY, MELODY, DEEPLY, KATE WATSON

This follows a pop singer and the romance she has while touring. Goodreads

THE BREAKUP TOUR, EMILY WIBBERLEY and AUSTIN SIEGEMUND-BROKA

Follows a woman who becomes an overnight sensation thanks to a break-up album. When her ex claims the song is about him, she calls the man the song is really about who then joins her on tour where both realize maybe they could still have something. Goodreads

Note; most, if not all of these, would fall under the secular and / or adult fiction tags, so if you are bothered by PG-13 or R-rated fiction, make sure to read about content levels beforehand.

Which of these have you or would you read? What titles would you add to the list? Comment all of your thoughts below! Let’s talk.
