‘THE WAY HOME’ ON NETFLIX: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SHOW
In a move that is, I am sure, hopeful to bring in some new faces and curious would-be viewers, Hallmark is licensing some of their content to Netflix. The story made headlines and more than one fan account of the network, wrote about it. One of the things included in this is the first two seasons of their popular hit The Way Home. The show will remain on the network’s own platform Hallmark+ and is the exclusive next-day window for their upcoming 2026 fourth season (this we all say on an assumption basis according to prior year seasons). All this to say, if you have been looking forward to this release, you have to wait no longer. October 1 is the day that The Way Home comes to Netflix so we’re sharing a little bit about it in a “what you need to know.’

‘THE WAY HOME’ ON NETFLIX: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SHOW 🌳 Sharing about #TheWayHome as it makes its debut on #Netflix! #ChylerLeigh Share on XThe show is a multi-generational timeslip story that follows three generations of Landry women. It has a popular CW TV star in one lead, and a vet talent in another and then makes up the rest with familiar Hallmark talent and newcomers (to the channel) to tell a story that Hallmark viewers seem to be obsessing over. The show is also one that, from what I can tell, seems to be enticing newcomers to the network, bringing in some people who perhaps previously weren’t at all interested in the content.
Let’s take a closer look at this story and help you decide if the latest drama to drop on Netflix is your kind of story.
THE WAY HOME on NETFLIX: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Note: there will be some “big picture” spoilers below
ABOUT
The plot revolves around the Landry women, and their ups and downs including emotional upheavals and love story heartbreaks. Everything gets started when the adult daughter of Del Landry returns home in the aftermath of a divorce with her own teenage daughter. The three women, after daughter Kat has been gone for many years, deal with emotional complications, time travel (!!), and the challenge of trying to adjust to changes and being back in this place Kat shunned. This brings us to our next heading which is to introduce you to the characters of The Way Home.

THE CHARACTERS
While this isn’t everyone you’ll meet in the first two seasons of The Way Home, let me introduce you to some of the characters you will get to know.
Del Landry: the strong and capable matriarch, Del has been through it. She doesn’t like to revisit the painful past which includes the long ago missing case of her young son and later, the death of her beloved husband. It was these events that eventually drew an obvious line between her and daughter, Katherine aka Kat. Del is strong but loving, and in spite of the years and awkwardness, she loves her daughter and granddaughter. Andie MacDowell plays Del.
Katherine “Kat” Landry: even though she had a strong support system, Kat left behind her hometown when she was a teenager in the arms of the man she married. Now, very much an adult trying to raise her own rebellious teenage daughter, she returns home where she must confront these emotions and learn to live with her estranged mother again. The past is what Kat fixates on, and she revisits it to the detriment (repeatedly) of her present relationships. Chyler Leigh plays Kat.
Alice Landry: teenage daughter of Kat, Alice isn’t getting along with her mother when we meet her. She’s angry about moving and being separated from her dad. Things start to change when Alice, the first of the Landry women, ends up time traveling through a pond back to the 90s when her mother was a teenager, the grandfather she never met was still alive and the uncle she doesn’t know is a kid. Sadie Laflamme-Snow plays Alice.

Jacob Landry: We meet Jacob as a child, primarily in the scenes when Alice time travels to the past. He isn’t a part of her life or present when Alice meets him, and of course, there is more to Jacob’s story, but saying so would tease spoilers. Remy Smith and Spencer Macpherson play Jacob.
Colton Landry: husband of Del, father to Kat and Jacob, Colton is another “shadow” character in that he’s in scenes where Kat or Alice revisit the past and so while he’s important, he’s a memory that no one can move on from. Jefferson Brown plays Colton.
Elliot Augustine: best friend of Kat, Elliot is the boy she leaves behind and also the boy who silently loves Kat deeply. The pair reunited in the first season and have had many ups and downs since this. Evan Williams plays Elliot.
Susanna Augustine (Watson Rose) and Thomas (Coyle Kris Holden-Ried): both of these characters appear in season two. Susanna is an ancestor of Elliot’s and Thomas a man whom Kat recklessly falls for when she time travels to the 1800s.
Sam Bishop: a neighbor who has a bit of friction with Del, Sam becomes a confidante and possible new love story of Del, only for him to also be a character holding secrets (eventually). Rob Stewart plays Sam.
Brady Dhwan: ex-husband of Kat, and father to Alice, Brady appears now and then and seems to be on okay terms with Kat as they both know they don’t work anymore. Al Mukadam plays Brady.
THE EPISODE count
Seasons one and two both have a ten episode run. So twenty (perfectly bingeable) episodes are available now.
THE ROMANCE
Fans, at least based off social media chatter, have loved the second chance reunion romance between would be lovers E and Kat, but there is a “team Thomas” mindset too. Some fans love that Elliot, who has been there for Kat, stands up for himself and doesn’t just let her dictate the “how” of their relationship when, again, he’s been there all along. The love story has merits, but what frustrates me to no end about the relationship is that we are asked to repeatedly forgive one person. Saying more would spoil things!

You can now stream seasons one – two of The Way Home on Netflix. Season three, and its upcoming fourth (2026) season, according to reporting will appear in 2026 (the third early on, the fourth late in 2026) on the streamer. In the meantime, season three is on Hallmark+ which will be the next day home of its fourth season.
