‘MISTLETOE MURDERS,’ SEASON TWO: MORE COZY CLUES IN NEW TRIO OF CHAPTERS

Returning for season two is Hallmark’s 2024 favorite Mistletoe Murders. In the second year, it’s been about a year since last Emily Lane (Sarah Drew) and Sam Wilner (Peter Mooney) have exchanged more than mere pleasantries. Emily, a drifter and loner, tries to feel at home in Fletcher’s Grove where she owns the quaint Christmas shop. Her mysterious past is what makes her a natural and excellent investigator. In the past, she and Sam, the local detective, would investigate the mysterious murders in their small town. But since some of her own secrets have unraveled, the two, both of who had a tenuous friendship who wondered if they could have more…

Violet (Sierra Marilyn Riley), Sam’s daughter, no longer works for her, which is for the benefit of her dad’s worry. This year she also has a crush on a cute classmate which may lead to a dance! Meanwhile, Emily ends up investigating the school in order to solve a new case involving the disappearance of a chess coach.

The second season of a show exclusive to the Hallmark+ streaming service, fans saw Mistletoe Murders first season make its network debut last year. This second year is all-new and gives Emily three new (broken into six two-part hour-long episodes) mysteries to solve. It’s fun to see Sarah Drew, who also serves as producer, and Peter Mooney make their return. The pair have some really emotional few moments from season one which bleeds into the start of season one. This is where we pick up season two, so discovering how this will play out this season will be interesting. What made me sad is that they avoided each other for a year. But I’m hopeful the rest of these episodes, building off this debut, will remedy this.

Though this is just a first impression review, I did enjoy the start of this season. It’s one of those cozy mystery stories that makes the episodes easy to binge. They are so fun and entertaining. The mysteries move rapidly and as a result, the show keeps the viewer curious and invested. Based on the Audible series, the show is one that its star is invested in seeing continue so the success of this second season will probably be an indicator of whether a third season will arrive. For Hallmark, I think this one is a little edgier than their normal mystery, which I don’t mind.

In the meantime, like its first season, it’s not hard for Mistletoe Murders to draw you in. It’s a ton of fun and the cast present (sometimes) complex but also likeable characters who we’d like to see find a little more happiness.

Stream, at publication, Mistletoe Murders season two next day on Hallmark+; episodes 3 and 4 will debut next Friday on Hallmark Channel and 5 and 6 will arrive the following week. Everything will exclusively stream next-day on Hallmark+
