‘WILD CARDS,’ SEASON THREE: A FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE LATEST CASES!
Back for year three, CW airs (for the U.S.) the next season in the Canadian crime procedural Wild Cards. Like its title, this one is a super fun show!
Wild Cards Season Three (2026) TV Show Review
Much is unsettled between the con artist turned police consultant Max (Vanessa Morgan) and her strait-laced detective partner Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti). Ellis has opened up to Max in unexpected ways and Max almost (maybe?) may have stayed with Ellis. But then on her way to meet him, she finds mother, Vivienne (Tamara Taylor), the woman she thought was dead, at her front door. This changes everything, but one thing Max and Ellis are good at is their professional life.
And they have a case.
This case requires they go undercover in order to catch the killer of a pool shark. Thus begins their latest investigation. Emotions also run high when Vivienne brings a dangerous crime lord into all of their lives, which means Max nor anyone in her orbit is safe.

Share on XThough I was slow to start this show (and even then, I kind of forgot about it for a while), once I religiously watched it, I ended up loving it. It’s one of the light-hearted shows that is easy to binge and enjoy. The cast too is good, and I really like the chance to see faces who are unfamiliar (at least to me) take on the stereotype roles that works so well in a crime dramedy. What makes this season more fun is seeing Jason Priestley reprise his recurring role as George; and then we also get to see Tamara Taylor in something current after watching her play boss in Bones for many seasons.
This is, as is true of any new season feature review published here, merely a first impression collection of thoughts since there are quite a few episodes to come in this third season, but Wild Cards starts its new year off well. I think the arrival of Max’s mother sets up some intriguing new emotions and while it may also frustrate viewers because it’s going to drive challenges* for Max and new wedges between her and Ellis, I’m hopeful they’ll make it given the bond they formed before her arrival. (*To say nothing of the continuous mystery that will very likely play throughout!)
All in all, season three of Wild Cards is off to another traditionally fun start. A fourth season was ordered by the Canadian production which is CBC and time will tell if CW picks up the season here. In the meantime, season three is setting up new adventures for this likable trio.
