SOME OF THE THINGS TO WATCH LIKE ‘ETERNITY’

Dropping to streaming this past week is Eternity, the 2025 romance dramedy that inspires us to ask what things are there to watch like this one? The film is a romance, but is quite different than most in its genre, but despite this, Eternity is oddly lovely, and dare I saw it, it may even be the best one I’ve seen with this framework.

SOME OF THE THINGS TO WATCH LIKE ‘ETERNITY.’ Looking at some of the films to enjoy like #Eternity. #ElizabethOlsen #MilesTeller Share on X

The film follows Elizabeth Olsen’s Joan, a woman who, after a long life, dies shortly after her husband and once in eternity, she reunites not just with her husband, but also the man who she had a passionate relationship with before the man she shared sixty years with. They married young and then he died in war. Now, faced with the two men of her past, Joan’s heart tears apart again, wondering who she’s destined to be with forever.

Apple TV

This may not be something I re-watch often, but honestly, I did really like this movie. It has heart, warmth and is a surprisingly honest look at what makes a life a, well, life. There is also some cute comedy too. Let’s see what other titles you can find that you may like if you like this Apple TV dramedy.

THINGS LIKE ETERNITY to watch

CITY of ANGELS

Never saw this one, which is true of many movies on this list since angel or movies about death aren’t me thing, but this one has Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage in a drama about an angel who falls in love with a woman which is against all of the rules.

Synopsis: Love story between a female doctor and a heavenly angel. When the angel finds out that he can be seen by the doctor, he longs to give up his immortality to become human. – Prime Video

THE GHOST and MRS. MUIR

This classic movie that fans often rate high and seem to love is one I have not seen (do I need to?). It has Rex Harrison in the leading man role and features a story about a woman whose new home is haunted by its previous owner. A young Natalie Wood also stars alongside Gene Tierney as leading lady Lucy Muir. Not only is this a fan favorite (a seven out of ten rating) but is also an Oscar nominee!

GHOST TOWN

Ricky Gervais features in this about a man who dies, is revived and lives now with the ability to see ghosts. It’s tagged as a comedy but isn’t one I’ve seen.

Synopsis: A spirited romantic comedy, Ghost Town is the story of Bertram Pincus, a cranky Manhattan dentist who develops the unwelcome ability to see dead people. – Prime Video

HEREAFTER

This film has all kinds of star power to its title from Matt Damon and Bryce Dallas Howard in front of the camera to Clint Eastwood directing, it doesn’t suffer from name recognition. It’s about a group of people who experience a journey in the aftermath of death, and the different ways death affects them.

Synopsis: Acclaimed director Eastwood’ first foray into the supernatural tells the story of three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways. – Prime Video

JUST like HEAVEN

One I have seen, I don’t remember all the details of this one, but it follows a doctor who dies and the friendship that blooms between her and an architect, the only man who can see or hear her. What gives this one a bit more charm is the fact that Reese Witherspoon features, an actress that always seems to infuse her roles with charisma.

THE LAKE HOUSE

This is another one I’ve seen and it’s actually really charming. There is death and romance. There is pining and waiting. All of it is sweet and surprisingly, an ending that’s very much happily ever after appropriate. It also reunites Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, too.

Synopsis: A lonely doctor who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its newest resident, a frustrated architect. – Prime Video

A LITTLE BIT of HEAVEN

Despite having Kate Hudson, who I’ve seen in many films, I never did watch this film. Mainly because I think I read an ending spoiler and just couldn’t deal with it. But the film is about a woman who falls for a doctor and the ups and downs of their brief love affair.

Synopsis: An irreverent young woman (Kate Hudson) who uses her humor to avoid intimacy has a life-changing visit from her doctor in this divinely funny dramatic comedy. – Prime Video

LOVE at FIRST SIGHT

This deals with death but not in the way that Eternity does. However, what it does have is a kind of life story, albeit one that primarily takes place in this couple’s meet cute rather than the span of their life. Still, it works and is a surprisingly lovely story about two people who meet in an airport and discover they are each other’s “one” even with some tribulation. The film is also an adaptation of a Jennifer L. Smith novel.

ONE DAY

I did see this one when it was released because of Anne Hathaway but I never saw it again. It’s an adaptation that had the feature with Hathaway back in 2011 and then Netflix adapted the novel, by David Nicholls, in more recent years. The story follows a couple who we check in with each year on the same year and how their lives change. The story is very sad, so it’s not one I’ve seen again but the miniseries has an 8 / 10 user average, so I feel like my not loving this one is more a “me” thing than masses.

ONE TRUE LOVES

Based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, this film has a happier ending than some on this list and is, much to my great surprise, a film I did really like. It follows a woman who, moving on with her life in the aftermath of immense tragedy, hears a voice from her past that changes everything.

A WALK to REMEMBER

A classic title for many, this is an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel and is also likely considered the breakout role of Mandy Moore playing a preacher’s daughter who falls in love with the bad boy, who she teaches about love and life.

Synopsis: The story of two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, who are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is made to do community service. – Prime Video
