WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ‘THE OTHER BENNET SISTER’
One of the best things I get to do as a fangirl who likes to write about favorite things is discover new period drama productions. Each new year brings with it the promise of such productions, and in 2026 already we have a small collection that is proving to be exciting. One of these is The Other Bennet Sister, a title that today I want to spotlight in a ‘what we know’ roundup of news.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ‘THE OTHER BENNET SISTER.’ #JaneAusten #TheOtherBennetSister #TVNews #StreamingNews Share on XThis is a production that has been teased for a long time now and is of course tied to a Jane Austen story. But because it’s been circulating for quite some time, it’s likely all of us curious onlookers already know the details, and have read all the things, but in case you haven’t, read below all the news-y things that have been released about this one, and what it’s all about!
WHAT WE KNOW about THE OTHER BENNET SISTER
THE INSPIRATION and WHAT IT’S ABOUT
This one is, as the title suggests, a multi-part series that will follow the Bennet family, a group of characters made famous from the 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. However, this is going to be an adaptation from the novel by Janice Hadlow, which the BBC reports as being one that is acclaimed. Unlike most variations of Pride and Prejudice, this one is going to follow the forgotten sister Mary, the bookish girl wearing glasses who we often forget. According to its Goodreads page, the novel, which is also titled The Other Bennet Sister, reads as being about:
Mary, the bookish ugly duckling of Pride and Prejudice’s five Bennet sisters, emerges from the shadows and transforms into a desired woman with choices of her own.
What if Mary Bennet’s life took a different path from that laid out for her in Pride and Prejudice? What if the frustrated intellectual of the Bennet family, the marginalized middle daughter, the plain girl who takes refuge in her books, eventually found the fulfillment enjoyed by her prettier, more confident sisters? This is the plot of The Other Bennet Sister, a debut novel with exactly the affection and authority to satisfy Austen fans. – via Goodreads
FAMILIAR BUT so DIFFERENT
Based on casting reports, this show will include iconic characters like Mary’s sisters Elizabeth and Jane, and you will even see Caroline Bingley and Mr. Collins, too! However, the focus won’t be on any of these characters as has been the norm for all prior variations of the stories featuring the Bennet family.
THE CAST
This production is stacked with what looks to be a grand cast. Based off what I’m seeing, it’s going to be a mix of familiar faces (the names and people who have been charming us in period drama for years) and newer talent who will likely continue to star in productions like this for years to come.
The cast includes Ella Bruccoleri playing the titular Mary Bennet alongside Ryan Sampson, Dónal Finn, Laurie Davidson and Aaron Gill. Additional to the cast list is Richard E. Grant, Ruth Jones, Indira Varma and Richard Coyle.
