THINGS TO WATCH LIKE ‘OFFICE ROMANCE’
The workplace romance isn’t new, but it does get renewed here and there when a new movie releases. The latest is the Netflix title Office Romance which inspires a things to watch like of titles that you may also enjoy watching. Though this romance is very adult, there are others that are a bit more wholesome and some that are in-between. The workplace (and maybe a few others) romance prompt inspires this list.
FILM REVIEW | ‘AT MIDNIGHT’ IS OBSCURE BUT HAPPY ROM-COM
The Netflix title that just dropped today is a story about a successful CEO who has gotten where she is by following rules and being a smart businesswoman. One of her strict rules is no inner-office entanglements, which is all fine until she meets a new hire in the form of a new lawyer for the company. I’ve seen good and negative reviews for this new drop, and while I won’t say never, I don’t think this one is really a film I’m all that interested in seeing. Still, based on the office angle, I think we can still safely share some other possible titles to watch.
Keeping in mind the forbidden romance angle plus the workplace angle, let’s see what other titles we can find to watch (aka watchalikes) if you love this one.
THINGS to WATCH like OFFICE ROMANCE
BEAUTY and the BRIEFCASE
One of those delightfully “cheesy” movies, this debuted on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) and had Hilary Duff playing a character who goes undercover as a finance company to writes pieces on love in the workplace. The story kind of reminds me of Confessions of a Shopaholic, which is another fun workplace romance.

This has a office romance that for me, really isn’t one to root for, but whatever! It’s also a film that is universally loved following the titular character who often feels awkward and lacks self-confidence. It stars Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, too.

THE HATING GAME
Based on the popular novel by Sally Thorne, this is an R-rated comedy that had Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell (pre his lead role in NCIS: Origins) as two co-workers who despise each other. The story is rumored to take on reflections of Pride and Prejudice (at least where the two leads are concerned) but isn’t one I’ve seen.
Synopsis: Resolving to achieve professional success without compromising her ethics, Lucy embarks on a ruthless game of one-upmanship against cold and efficient nemesis Joshua, a rivalry that is complicated by her growing attraction to him. – via Prime Video

JERRY MAGUIRE
This is an iconic film that is, from all accounts, well loved by many. It’s also a film celebrating thirty years in 2026. It has Tom Cruise playing a successful sports agent who takes a chance and leaves his office to start one of his own, and along the way, he has a complicated connection with Renee Zellweger, an office mate.
LAWS of ATTRACTION
Dueling lawyers representing a divorcing couple are the focus of this story that ends up having the pair wake up married after a drunken night. Pierce Bronson and Julianne Moore star.

MARRY ME
Jennifer Lopez leads this title and given her list of feel-good rom-coms, I had to add at least one of her other titles to this list. It’s not really a workplace romance, but she does meet Owen Wilson’s good-guy single dad at her work which is during a concert her pop star character is giving. This story is incredibly sweet about Kat Valdez, a worldwide star whose highly publicized wedding day goes array when she learns the groom was cheating on her. This prompts her to do something crazy which is to marry a random guy in the audience. Like I said, the movie is really quite cute.

THE PROPOSAL
This 2009 comedy has higher user ratings than Bullock’s Two Weeks Notice, though both are equally fun! A workplace rom-com, this one follows the ambitious and talented Margaret Tate, a New York editor who never gives her long-suffering assistant Andrew (played by Ryan Reynolds) a chance. When she ends up needing to marry, she “forces” Andrew into playing along as her fiancé. One trip to Alaska later (to see Andrew’s family), and well, hilarity (and maybe love!) ensues.
Synopsis: Facing deportation to Canada, a high-powered book editor pretends she is engaged to the assistant who she has tormented for years. – via Prime Video

RETURN to OFFICE
This one is very wholesome and sweet. It follows two people who share a desk at the same business on different days of the week. They begin to leave notes for each other and form a friendship, realizing that they may already know each other. Janel Parrish is in this one.
Synopsis: After making the return to the office on a hybrid schedule, two coworkers known to each other only as Ms. Monday and Mr. Tuesday start sending friendly notes, sparking an office romance. – via Hallmark+

SECOND ACT
I rarely see anyone talking about this one and must assume it’s not universally loved, but I did find this 2018 film starring Jennifer Lopez to actually really be quite good. A white lie begins the story where a woman dreaming of leaving her humdrum box-store job ends up being hired as an exec. Of course, the lie is bound to come out, but before it does, there are lots of good parts to enjoy. Plus, fans of Milo Ventimiglia will see him and of course, Leah Remini co-stars, too.
Synopsis: A big box store worker reinvents her life and her life-story and shows Madison Avenue what street smarts can do. – via Prime Video

SET it UP
This is a film from Netflix that I don’t really see getting any love. It’s delightfully cute though and is a kind of “parent trap” concept about two overworked employees who decide to play matchmaker for their respective bosses in the hopes this will allow them to finally have a life. The film features Lucy Lui, Zoey Deutch and before he was a major film star Glen Powell. All in all, the movie is funny and warm and just a good watch.
Synopsis: Harper and Charlie are overworked, underpaid assistants wasting their 20s slaving away for bosses who treat them like dirt and work them ‘round the clock. When they realize that they would have much more free time if the people they worked for weren’t single, they concoct a plan to lure their bosses into a faux-romance. – via Netflix

TWO WEEKS NOTICE
This one is an iconic film about a do-good activist lawyer who catches the attention of a big business CEO who convinces her to work for him. Of course, there are various mishaps and not everything is easy, including the fact that George often uses Lucy for menial and silly tasks rather than for her real talent pushing her to the edge eventually and she gives two weeks notice!
Synopsis: Millionaire George Wade doesn’t make a move without Lucy, his multi-tasking Chief Counsel at the Wade Corporation. A brilliant attorney with a strategic mind, she also has an ulcer and doesn’t get much sleep, but now she’s calling it quits. – via Prime Video

UPGRADED
I started this one a while back and don’t think I’ve ever finished it. It’s about a woman with big career ambitions who ends up meeting a charming man on a flight and is mistaken for the CEO aka her boss of the company she works for. I don’t remember specifics about this one but do seem to remember I was enjoying it, so I should someday finish the film. It, like a couple of others on this list, has an R-rating but remembering what it was for escapes me (a quick look suggests profanity, which likely means the f-word, and suggestive artwork).
Synopsis: Ana (Camila Mendes) is an ambitious intern dreaming of a career in the art world while trying to impress her demanding boss Claire (Marisa Tomei). When she’s upgraded to first class on a work trip, she meets handsome Will (Archie Renaux), who mistakes Ana for her boss– a white lie that sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance and opportunity, until her fib threatens to surface. – via Prime Video
