Spooky, Gothic and Romantic Costume Dramas for All Hallows Eve: 20 Dramas to Enjoy!

Halloween isn’t a holiday I personally pay any attention to nor has it been one I’ve celebrated. That said, one way I acknowledge the day is by indulging in Gothic or spooky period dramas. This is a pastime I am familiar with and very fond of. Nonetheless, talking about spooky and romantic period dramas is always fun!

20. Van Helsing**

There’s our list of 20 Spooky and Romantic Period Dramas Perfect for All Hallows Eve (at least for now!). I’m curious: what spooky, Gothic, dramatic or romantic films do you enjoy watching over All Hallow’s Eve?? I’d love to read your recommendations! Comment down below with your thoughts.

**UPDATE: Since its original publication, I’ve watched this film, and am conflicted. It’s a “fun” sci-fi film that’s mostly humorous but it quickly dips into a dark “darkness” (does this make sense!?) that doesn’t fit the tone. Someday I might review it. Or I might not. Thoughts!?

  1. This post is absolutely perfect in every possible way! I love period dramas, so for that matter alone this list is awesome, but I also love things to get me in the mood for Halloween! I loved Maleficent and BBC's And Then There Were None! I hope to check out a lot of these others one on your list as well. :)

    1. Hi, Jordan. Thanks! I had fun putting this one together. Like you, I adore period dramas. There's something about them that never ceases to enchant me.

I thought And Then There Were None was masterful albeit VERY disturbing. The production quality was off the charts good. Plus it helped that "Poldark" was a part of the cast. ;) Maleficent is wonderful; Angelina is fantastic in the titular role.

Thanks so much for visiting – and let me know if you enjoy any of these others! :)

  2. I'm personally a HUGE Maleficent and Jane Eyre and now you have me interested in some more spooky watches. Thanks for doing this post-I'm going to have to check some of these out Rissi.

    1. Hi, Kara! My pleasure! I enjoy putting these together, but maybe don't do enough "list" type posts. I'm trying to figure out what kinds of things do well (i.e., readers like) and what doesn't work as well. :)

Hope you find some new costume dramas to enjoy. Some of these are spookier than others. Then there are some (like 'Hansom Cab') more along the lines of Jane Eyre.

  3. Lots of creepy sounding ones on this list for sure! I haven't seen most of them, but…Yay for P&P&Z!! :D Plus I remember being impressed with the storyline for The Illusionist. Definitely an excellently acted movie. And Death Comes to Pemberley!

    1. That there are! Some are creepier than others, so hopefully this list has a little something for everyone. (My most recent "Creepy" discovery is The Living and the Dead. Have one episode left, and I fear it won't end well.)

All the heart eyes for PP&ZMovie. Love that one. The Illusionist is SO good. But it's been a while since I watched it. And of course, you know I adore 'Pemberley.' :)
