‘BLUE MURDER MOTEL’ IS THE LATEST ACORN TV COZY MYSTERY
An exclusive on Acorn TV, Blue Murder Motel is another title to add to your “cozy mystery” rotation of viewing. It’s also a show I have hopes of being similar to one of my favorite New Zealand shows!
Blue Murder Motel (2026) Acorn TV Review
Leaving behind careers as cops is something that may seem easy for Vanessa aka Vinny (Michala Banas) and Peter “Cole” Coleman (Brett Tucker), but it’s not quite so simple. They trade in their investigative skills for business owners now running a motel in a small but sunny New Zealand town. This they do in the hopes and expectations that the hardest of their work and life balance days are behind them. However, Vinny soon finds herself drawn back in when one of their rooms becomes home to what appears to be a murder!
A show described as an “Acorn TV original,” Blue Murder Motel is another solid and great production from the library of content this streamer continues to grow. This show is, like their other recent and earlier offerings, an ideal fit and aligns with other drops from them. What I like about this one is the partner duo is a married couple which gives it a little edge in the sense that it stands out. Plus, we don’t have to invest in any possible endless will-they-or-won’t-they scenario; and I cannot tell you how good this is.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘THE CHELSEA DETECTIVE,’ SERIES FOUR: MAX AND COMPANY PICK UP SOME NEW CASES!

Outside of the stories and production, what I do enjoy about these is that the cast is, at least to me, unknown. I like going into something having no expectation of their acting or “how” they play a role. In this scenario, I like both people playing these respective roles, and think their characters and quirks are quite fun. Of course, their past promises some questions that will be investigated. The mystery angle sets up as being interesting and somehow still manage to have some “fun” even with a more serious topic. Behind the scenes, Kate McDermott has writing credits, which is a name you may recognize from the fabulous My Life is Murder series.
If you enjoy any other Acorn TV mystery shows or you just like cozy mysteries, don’t sleep on Blue Murder Motel. It’s a great addition to the streamer’s library and a great show that is as exciting as it is though provoking.
Stream, at publication, Blue Murder motel on Acorn TV; and watch for new episodes to drop on Mondays now throughout September.

Content: This one is pretty on par with other dramas you will see on Acorn TV (at least based on episode one). There is murder, and a body and secrets crop up because of this investigation. This one does get a TVMA rating but so far, like I said, it seems pretty similar in content. There are some minor innuendoes and of course, kissing but the focus is on the case. (If it’s something that bothers you, one seemingly recurring character does like/date the same sex.)
