A FEW FAVORITE TV SHOW SISTERS FROM PRESENT TO PAST

by

According to trends and hashtags today is one of those funny little made up days that is sister day. Because of this, and quite on a whim, I decided, why not features some favorite TV show sister siblings? I mean part of what makes a TV show good or interesting or better is the characters. What can make things more complex is the relationship between siblings.

LIST | SOME TV CHARACTERS I SIMPLY DON’T CARE FOR: PART ONE

Just sitting here typing, honestly, I cannot offhand think of many sister siblings I love. Probably those I do, I would have long ago placed on my previously published favorite siblings list. Still sometimes it’s fun to go back and revisit the characters and ask, do I still like them? Or simply to feature them again if they’re that kind of favorites. Let’s meet some of these sisters, shall we?

FAVORITE TV SHOW SISTERS

THE CRAWLEY SISTERS: MARY AND EDITH from DOWNTON ABBEY

If it weren’t for Sybil, whom the Crawley family loses in one of the early TV seasons, these sisters probably wouldn’t have any bond. Mary and Edith rub each other wrong and rarely get along, however in the final season and the two feature films, they do seem closer and seem to adapt to the fact that while they may not understand one another, they are sisters and that counts for something.

THE INGALLS SISTERS: LAURA, MARY AND CARRIE from LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE

Must include a nostalgia pick. I watched this show years ago on TV and it was always a cute watch. It’s just one of those shows (I think produced in the 70s?) that someone makes you feel good even in those episodes that deal with serious topics. That’s not the feeling most leave you with today and it’s sad.

JOANNA AND LUNA from BURDEN OF TRUTH

These two I find interesting. They’re quite different and certainly have spats, too. But overall, I do think their evolving relationship is solid and a good TV character write.

THE MARCH SISTERS from LITTLE WOMEN

Feeling like I can bend the rules to add these four women because ITV did make a kind of TV miniseries adaptation of Little Women that did air on TV. So we’re rolling with it. Overall these are just timeless and likeable characters. They balance each other out in that where one sister lacks a certain grace or attribute, the other picks it up. Together they’re pretty memorable.

NATALIE AND GRACE from THE UNICORN

These two are perhaps the youngest on this list, but I think they’re so cute in that they look out for not only their widowed father, but each other. They also share this unthinkable bond that no pre-teen should experience, and I think even in their quibbles, that helps to make them better.

THE O’BRIEN SISTERS: ABBY, BREE AND JESS from CHESAPEAKE SHORES
Chesapeake Shores: Season 2

These three are just cute together. They play as more of the “happy” sister relationship which is on brand for the Hallmark network. They still have their good and bad days together but mostly I think they have a good balance for the relationship.
