A First Look at Disney’s Summer Blockbuster ‘Jungle Cruise’

March 10, 2020 4 Comments

Sometimes you plan for one thing, only to change it up and do something completely different. That has been my experience for today’s publication. In fact, what you’re reading now is actually the third thing to have been planned for today, and while the other two will have their day, sometimes, “news” of the day deserves its due. In this case, it’s the “first look” of Disney’s Jungle Cruise.

Inspired by the Magic Kingdom park attraction (of the same name), here’s what the film is about, all according to Disney:

Join fan favorites Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for the adventure of a lifetime on Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE, a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance. – DISNEY

Disney's Jungle Cruise

As the synopsis says, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt will lead the case which also features Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall and Paul Giamatti. Johnson also serves as a producer. The film is not yet rated according to its current website, but I suspect it’ll be slapped with nothing worse that PG-13. As of now, it’s set to open July 24!

Since I’m a fan of 90-some percent of Disney movies, and like Johnson and Emily Blunt, I’m quite eager to see this one. It looks like a fun adventure not unlike the adventurous shenanigans of Captain Jack Sparrow or National Treasure. In short, it looks like an old-fashioned good time, plain and simple. When it comes to popcorn flicks of the summer, this seems to be the epitome of the kind of movie we enjoy most.

Full confession: I’m not in the “it’s a Disney it HAS to be good camp”, but, manalive, I’m so excited about this one!!!! From what can be seen in the trailer I feel like Dwayne Johnson and Emily have great banter and it looks like it will be just a terrific heart-pounding adventure to watch in general. :)

I always enjoy reading your opinions on stories, Rissi!
