SOME OF THE BEST SARA & GRISSOM ROMANTIC MOMENTS (OTP FAVORITES!)
If there’s one think I love that the TV franchise CSI does, it’s romance. Some see this statement and think CSI isn’t a romance, and in many ways you are right. It’s not. However, it does have these little threads that carries through and helps to make the show what it is. It’s for this reason I have to celebrate the Sara and Grissom romantic moments in a new OTP favorites feature.
PERSONALITY QUIZ | WHAT KIND OF ROMANTIC-COMEDY ARE YOU? A FUN QUIZ
SOME OF THE BEST SARA & GRISSOM ROMANTIC MOMENTS (OTP FAVORITES!) #CSI #GOODSHOWS #TVCOUPLES #TVROMANCE #TVSHIP #ROMANCE #ROMANCESCENES #TVSCENES Share on XTo be honest, this is probably premature since I’m only on season ten of the show, and there is MORE to their story – ups and sadly, downs. But I’m so impressed with how this show handles its characters personal lives that I cannot not write about it. It’s because of the subtlety that everything like the personal lives of Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom is so interesting. In this subtle-ness we ache to know more. It’s the simple and nonchalant way the writers’ drop things that makes us go, “wait, when did that just happen!?” And unlike some TV dramas that is all about its personal drama, I think this franchise understands a better tact in dealing with these things. It’s brilliant.
Plus this also allows us enough freedom to imagine what we like about our favorite characters. Too many writer’s disappoint fans in the direction they take characters so this way the viewer has more charge over where characters go. It’s actually a really good strategy and helps not to bog down otherwise excellent storytelling. All that to say, let’s take a peek at a few of the best Sara and Grissom romantic moments.
BEST SARA AND GRISSOM ROMANTIC MOMENTS
*Based off seasons 1 – 10 of CSI
1: THE RE-MEET (CUTE!)
SEASON ONE, EPISODE 2
From the first time Sara Sidle enters the lives of Gil Grissom’s team in season one, in order to do an impartial review of a tragic death, we know she and Gil share history. What we don’t know is the “what” of the history. Is it student-teacher? Is it a personal or professional? All the questions you can imagine cause our curious minds to go off, and we wonder who this person is that catches the level headed Grissom’s eye.
2: THE LITTLE THINGS
There’s a lot of “little moments” that form the relationship between Sara and Gil. One of them comes when, after Gil brings in some lunch, he neglects to bring everyone something, but presents Sara with a vegetarian meal, proving he knows her diet restrictions. Its subtle… but it says a lot when they share these moments.
3: THE STATUS CONFIRMATION
SEASON SIX, EPSIODE 24
In the immediate aftermath of a tragic event (the near death of a friend and colleague), the season ends with Gil in a bedroom discussing his philosophy on death and how he’d like to go. We see a shot of a female’s legs, leaning against a door frame and as Gil comments on how he’d like to have the time to say goodbye to those that matter, the camera reveals her to be Sara, who replies, “I’m not ready to say goodbye.”
4: THE RESCUE
SEASON EIGHT, EPISODE 1
In ups and downs (including Gil’s sabbatical, and Sara finding a letter he never sends), they stay together through season seven. During one of their baffling unsolved cases, the murderer ends up kidnapping Sara and pinning her beneath a car. In their frantic search to find her, Gil reveals to the team that the motive is personal given his relationship with Sara. Once they find her, Gil refuses to let her go alone. In the helicopter, Sara slowly wakes up, and at eye level she sees ‘Grissom’ printed on his CSI vest, telling her she is finally safe and not alone, as Gil gives her a smile when their eyes meet.
5: A MOST UNUSUAL PROPOSAL
SEASON EIGHT, EPSIODE 4
During this episode of season eight as Gil tends to his bees in his protective headgear. Sara climbs up to the roof, in a protective suit, to find Gil. The two share some conversation as Gil talks about his bees before quite unexpectedly and with little climax, he asks that Sara marry him. It’s not the swoony romantic proposal we’re used to, but for the two of them, it’s oddly fitting.
6: SEALED WITH A KISS
SEASON EIGHT, EPISODE 7
Pushed to the edge in this job, Sara finds she can do nothing but heal.. and leave. She finds Gil in the lab and without a word, she walks up to him, kisses him with much affection and leaves in the hopes of finding the joy this job steals. But she doesn’t go without leaving Gil a letter that, lovingly, shares her heart.
7: THE REUNION
SEASON NINE, EPISODES 1 AND 2, 10
In the early episodes of season nine Sara returns to Gil’s life in order to pay respect to someone they both loved. During her visit, they pick up their living situation and even discuss where their relationship is at. It ends in a bad place when Sara asks Gil to leave. He doesn’t and she leaves to return to working in Costa Rica. Later on in season nine Gil hears from her admitting they should let go.
In Vegas, Gil has had more than one change of heart personally, and while still very much an expert in his field, he makes a choice. He decides to end his career and much to the surprise of, I think everyone, at the very end of episode ten, Gil, walking through a kind of jungle, comes to a clearing where he and Sara reunite in a kiss.
Of course, this is NOT where Gil and Sara’s story ends. There’s more ups and downs for them, but for this piece, I’m going to end it here. Some of these moments between them are among my most favorite.
What about you? Do you agree or disagree with this; do you agree that less personal drama is better? Which of these moments did you like or dislike? Are you liking where Sara and Grissom’s (current timeline) romance went? Did their relationship ebbs and flows devastate you? Comment all the comments!

When I first watched this show, years ago, I thought their relationship was a little odd, because it just seemed to come out of nowhere and we rarely saw it. But looking back at it now, I can appreciate the subtleties and how the show focused more on their work and less on their personal lives; those little glimpses were sweet.
I agree that this show is NOT about relationships. I actually appreciate that because some shows let the romance take over, and then they deal in breakups and get back together, etc. That takes away from the cases which is often what I find so interesting; and in this show, I also find the conversation really interesting too. However I did pick up on their being “something” between Sara and Gil the first time she comes onto the scene. I couldn’t tell if it was just that they were friends or that they had something more. Either way, it’s really interesting to think about and in some ways I find it more fun because we can imagine whatever we want between them: they are together and happy, they aren’t, etc. As you say, the little glimpses are sweet. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Angela!
