‘FEELING BUTTERFLIES’: A SWEET ROMANCE WITH A REAL LIFE COUPLE

Part of the Spring Into Love of 2022 campaign, Feeling Butterflies features a look at a business movies don’t use. However, that’s where the more unique aspects end.

Feeling Butterflies (2022) Hallmark TV Film Review

Struggling in some of her work but passionate about it, Emily (Kayla Wallace) will do anything she can to make her butterfly business work. Along with her partner Adam (Ishan Morris), Emily provides dozens of butterflies for birthday parties or to release at the kiss after I do. Trouble is, she has something of a rivalry with another business and they end up competing for the wedding of the year.

Unexpectedly, Emily meets Garrett Thorson (Kevin McGarry), a single father who seems like the perfect kind of guy. But there’s more than one possible road block in their way.

This film has a really unique idea in how it involves butterflies and seeing something like this serve as a career is fun. That said, I don’t love some of the messaging here. Just one of which being the idea that people have to carry on what their ancestors do to preserve “legacy.” That is a concept that always bothers me. Additionally there’s another issue I don’t love either.

It’s fun knowing the leads are not only former co-stars, but also dating in real life. Makes it all cuter and more fun. I love that the script allows for the romance or “spark” to be talked about and acknowledged. This all helps the scenes that come later be sweeter and the longing of them more honest. The reverse “something on the face” moment is cute, too.

Another of the flaws is the rivalry. It pays way too childish but then, that doesn’t bother everyone. In the end, like anything on the network, if you typically enjoy these romantic comedy movies, Feeling Butterflies is sweet. There’s a nice story and I respect when a script doesn’t tiptoe around every moment it offers to share how the couple feels.
