THE GOOD, BAD & COLORFUL TRENDS OF SUMMER 2022

By now we’ve likely established that I enjoy trends and fashion in a passing fancy kind of way. This is why I enjoy reading up on what’s trending and the dos and don’ts of fashion. I’m not an avid reader of these things, but I do to a certain extent and of course, to put these together, I do a certain amount of reading. Putting all of this together means today is as good a day as any to look at the good and bad trends of summer 2022. Because we all love a trend moment, am I right?

Since I’m having this burst of honesty, I will admit after recently reading an article on some fashion trend don’ts, I have been a part of one. Now as I type and prepare to dig into aforementioned research, the question is, do I share which faux pas I made? Or do I let it die in fashion shame? This shall be my question. Onto brighter and happier things, let’s see what summer trends we may have to join in. The best news of all is we probably have some of these items in our closet that we can repurpose. Because let’s be real, we don’t have Emily’s wardrobe. And that ok, because we cannot all be Paris girls!

THE GOOD AND BAD TRENDS OF SUMMER 2022

THE CASUAL GIRL

In the summer, you don’t get much more casual and comfortable than your favorite, worn in jean shorts(1) and an oversized tee fun patriotic, if you like Freedom tour options, there’s this(2); a mauve Grand Teton tee(3); a cute sage “authentically happy” tee(4); or a more “perfect” fitted tee(5) like this in a few colors. Another option is a crew neck tee(6). I’m also liking shorts making a comeback in a longer style like these or these, however I don’t wear them because I feel like I don’t have the right type of body to pull them off. Probably the reason why 90+ percent of the time (when I’m going out), you’ll catch me in jeans through the summer months. A pair of white cutoffs(7) is also classic summer vibing too.

We also shared this fun little tiered dress from Amazon(8) in our Fourth of July fashion post up, and if you like dress, things don’t get much more comfy than this.

Bucket hats are still getting a shout-out here and there and I’m not sure if they’re trending or not, but I also love a fun baseball cap for a casual look. Target always has the cutest colors that help to make the casual outfit “pop.”

THE COLORFUL GIRL

According to one style expert, Libby Page, “Bold, brave brights are here to stay.” With all of this in mind, we have to gather some items that apply to this description. This casual button down is fun and BOLD with all of its colors(9)(and has some decent ratings); another possibility is this sleeveless ruffle sleeve top in yet another fun print(10); then there’s this multicolored and FUN short sleeve button up(11) too. If you like color but something more understated then there’s this stripe tee(12) as well.

If you want something with a bit more of a fancy vibe, there’s these linen blend pull on stripe shorts in the very in green stripe!(13) It also has a cute button up shirt that matches(14) if you’re into the matchy-match look of a set which can elevate any look. Also in green is a peplum sleeveless button up(15) that is sure to brighten any outfit no matter how you complete the look.

On the accessories end, the chunky rings are still showing at some stores or on the hands of some Instagram influencers. I have one set and have worn them a few times. However, honestly I love my more simple silver (or gold) fashion rings even if they are less delicate. Scarfs are also supposed to enjoy their accessorize moment according to a celebrity stylist and article from InStyle.

THE FEMININE GIRL

If you like to proudly be feminine in fashion and the styles, this may be YOUR summer. More than one article quotes a stylist who credits a certain Netflix show with ushering in a kind of Regency fashion, but make it modern. It’s being called “RegencyCore.” Things like a pretty and delicate ruffle sleeve dress(16) would fit or this super similar “half sleeve” dress with an overlay detail(17). Also fitting the style would something like a square neck puff sleeve blouse(18) or a fitted “bodice” blouse that laces up in the back(19). I would opt for a dress over the latter style, but either way, I am hear for fashion that tends to be more girly.

THE NEUTRALS GIRL

According to a piece, in part, on WhoWhatWear, neutrals still have their moment. It’s just a slight twist on the look. Additionally, InStyle shouts out the “coastal grandmother” fashion trend (who named this?) and is described as a “monochromatic light neutral toned outfits, linen fabrics, and breezy pieces.” For me, neutrals is always best served with classics like a pair of jeans or cute jean shorts and a simple white boyfriend button up(20). Or even something like this cute but dressier top(21) from Walmart. There’s also these jeans in a cute stripe(22) that you can pair the same button up with or go more casual with a simple white tee – and according to Byrdie, the plain white tank is having a moment.

I’m not really into linen pants or lighter weight fabric styles in general but since the stylists say they’re in, there is this tapered pair for one option(23). If you like classics, a blazer is cute as an option, like one from Scoop with its tie-back detailing(24).

We also love a simple, basic pair of black shorts, these are the paperbag style(25) that everyone seems to have now, in a classic black. Wide leg pants and jeans are making their statement recent including this pair of white jeans from Walmart(26) (which seems to be reinventing its fashion lines).

THE THROWBACK GIRL

If you love 20+ year old fashion, this is your year to shine. Also from WhoWhatWear, the Y2k fashion is HAVING A MOMENT. Honestly… I just cannot get into this. However Target’s Wild Fable line is always very into that type of style between its midriff tops or its love of biker shorts, there’s all shorts of things there. The 2022 version of Y2K is also trying to force platforms,  low-slung jeans and the see through tops to make a comeback too. I just have to say publicly, please no.

The one bit of nostalgia you do see from this that I did actively participate in in 2000 is the butterfly clip. I mean, come on, tell me I’m not the only one.

Ok, do you like any of these trends or looks? Have you seen any or used any? What’s your most favorite closet piece? What’s your style? Do you pay any attention to fashion? Comment all the comments below! Let’s get our fashion girl talk on.
