NEW DREAMS FIND ‘A SPLASH OF LOVE’ IN UNIQUE HALLMARK

It’s been rare that I watch a Hallmark film lately. Just haven’t thought they’ve been quite as entertaining lately. However, sometimes I do play one and the latest is A Splash of Love. Unique in some ways, it’s one that kind of “bridges” the summer to autumn inspired movies.

A Splash of Love (2022) Hallmark Film Review

Working on her PhD, Chloe Turner (Rhiannon Fish) is passionate about her work. However her work in Mami is limited to inside an office mapping the patterns of orca whales in the Pacific Northwest. This inspires her boss to send her to Washington where she can in person see the whales at a conservation site. Trying to do everything independently she finds her lack of knowledge in the area and with the whales, she may need help.

Enter Ben Winters (Benjamin Hollingsworth) a marine tour guide who knows the waters better than anyone. As the pair explore the waters and search for the orcas, and one pod that is missing.

This is one film that features a heroine who’s extremely passionate about her work and protecting the species she studies. None of this is anything I understand so in that way I don’t relate to the work she does. That said Rhiannon is a good leading lady who makes it easy to like her and “feel” that enthusiasm. She’s an actress I’d like to see in more leading lady roles. I think she’s got that girl next door affect that’s just so easy to like. Her character Chloe has more than one mishap including getting stuck and drenched in the water. Makes her relatable, right? Benjamin Hollingsworth is also likable and is going to be in a Hallmark film this autumn too.

There’s some stunning scenery, even if some is with the help of special effects. It’s still quite pretty as is all of the shots of the water and the surrounding scenery. There’s plenty of hometown vibes that seem to dominate so many of these films. This means themes of kindness and being helpful when someone needs some help. Plus, Ben’s goodbye is honest, and I appreciate much of what he says. Speaking of the near ending, it does get too dramatic including a “declaration” which is just too much.

Still, I suspect most network fans will find A Splash of Love a sweet romance to enjoy.
