BOOKS WITH A SPACE THEME OR SET IN SPACE

When it comes to settings in books, I tend to like Europe or cities. Probably this is because I live in a small community, so I don’t really have a “need” or “want” to read about areas I “get” or small towns. I live it. Today we’re supposed to pick a setting and center a list around this, so going rogue and unusual for the usual lists, I’m featuring books set in space. Or at least books that have some type of space element.

This is because I’m trying to use something I don’t ever feature so that we can use books that rarely if ever get attention here. Because let’s be real, we do re-use books around here. A lot. But sometimes if that’s the only book that fits, you got to repeat celebrate it. I’m also not really into novels set in space (I did think the movie Juniper Ascending was fun), but if my memory is right, I do own a few. So let’s search the shelves and see what books we find that don’t usually get a feature.

BOOKS SET in SPACE from my SHELF

ZENITH, SASHA ALSBERG and LINDSAY CUMMINGS

Bought this one because I, years ago, used to watch Sasha’s book channel on YouTube. It was so fun to see someone who I had “known” as an avid reader accomplish so many fun things, including a book. Now however I have really no idea why I bought the book (outside of support) since it’s not really a genre or plot I read. Goodreads

BRIGHTLY BURNING and THE STARS WE STEAL, ALEXA DONNE

I cannot remember why I picked this one up. Maybe I read it was a re-telling of a classic novel? Persuasion maybe. Goodreads

THESE BROKEN STARS and THIS SHATTERED WORLD, AMIE KAUFMAN and MEAGAN SPOONER

I read this one (book one) and did enjoy it, but not enough to keep long term. It’s since been donated or I have it in a box to sell. Don’t ask me to remember which one. Goodreads

ALIENATED, MELISSA LANDERS

I’ve had this one for a long time. Never read it, though years ago, someone did say it was a fun read. Goodreads

CINDER, MARISSA MEYER

I unhauled this, but I think I technically still own it in one of the boxes crowding the office. If I have donated it, it’s just recently, so either way, I’m going to use this one and say I still “own” it. Goodreads

HEART of IRON, ASHLEY POSTON

Not sure I still own this one, but it was one I picked up because it’s an Anastasia re-telling. Goodreads

RECLAIMING SHILO SNOW, MARY WEBBER

I own this one, but don’t know if I’ve read it. The opening synopsis line says it takes place (in part) on an ice planet, so while this may be stretching it, we’re going for it. Goodreads

Have you read any of these? Would you recommend them? Which space stories do you think are worth the effort? Comment all of your thoughts below.

    1. I’ve read VERY few. I did read These Broken Stars (which I liked at the time) and I think I’ve read one or two others. These are mainly just books I did buy through the years, but now… well, I’m thinking they wouldn’t be “me” reads. :)

    1. Thanks, Nicky. I decided to feature some sci-fi/space books for my list just because that’s a genre I rarely read so then it follows that I rarely feature them. :)

  1. I definitely re-use the same books over and over in my lists. It’s tough not to! Good for you for expanding your book horizons. I’m not much for sci-fi/fantasy, so I don’t read a lot of books set in space. I did enjoy the Lunar Chronicles series, though, and I actually loved PROJECT HAIL MARY (except for the very science-y and math-y parts). I hope you enjoy these books when you get to them.

    Happy TTT!

    1. I had/have all of these on my shelf from buying them used or new through the years. However I’ve kind of decided it’s probably not my genre (I did read These Broken Stars and liked it at the time) so I will likely eventually donate them or try to eBay list them. But yes! It is hard not to re-use books. Especially when we’ve put these lists together for this many years! :)

    1. It’s not my genre either, Cindy. I have read a couple, but I’m pretty sure most of these will end up in the donate/sell pile if they aren’t already. :)

    1. YAY! More “Cinder” love. I know so many enjoyed that one. And yes. The cover art really caught my eye for “These Broken Stars” and I own book two, but I just never felt excited enough to read it. :)

    1. How cool. I never look up any of the challenges (likely because I wouldn’t like to see how many I failed probably). Hope you have a successful challenge, Dedra, and thanks for visiting. :)
