POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and TEN
THE FAIRYTALE OUTRAGE CONTINUES
It’s been a few weeks (or months?) now, but we all know the upcoming Disney adaptation of Snow White caught fire. Not only will thenow open now in 2025 (March), previously it was in 2024, but Disney also released its first teaser photo in the last week. The Internet was not, well, happy with the preview. Many are saying the dwarves are CGI and it’s not right coming from a live-action flick; instead, the idea is they should cast actual actors. While I think Rachel Zegler (who plays Snow White) is wrong in her perspective about this film (she made headlines and controversy a while back about how the story is outdated), I think this photo actually makes the film look fun. Seeing this makes me slightly more excited for this upcoming feature. What about you?
LAST things
If you’ve been waiting to see the final Indiana Jones flick, you have a month yet to wait. On December 1, it will drop on Disney+ where you can stream the adventure flick in your living room.
The shortened fourth season, set to air in 2024, will be the last for CW’s Superman and Lois. Makes me wonder, seeing all of these long running (and sometimes short) superhero shows ending, are we moving past the popularity of these stories?
On October 28th, actor Matthew Perry passed away at the age of 54. Best known for his role on Friends, I know him best from the 90s film Fools Rush In, which is one of those feel-good comedies about two people making lots of mistakes, and trying to figure out how to fix them.
After going on a podcast, a single quote from actress Lucy Hale has gotten attention. She talks about meaningless “hookups,” saying that “sex with a stranger isn’t enjoyable.” She further went on to say that not everyone needs to “touch your body.” I have zero clue if she is genuinely feeling this way and finding “dating” in a hookup obsessed culture tiresome or if she made these remarks for other reasons, but she is correct in saying that not everyone you know or go on a date with deserves to be someone you are intimate with, either emotionally or physically.
Like any week, the Internet is fickle. It can be annoyed or giddy in a single breath. And this week what made the Internet giddy is the reunion of Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried who reunited for a WalMart commercial. This on the “eve” of their iconic film’s 2024 anniversary where the three played in Mean Girls together, a film from 2004 that still has an iconic cultural impact. You can see the ad here.
