POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and TWENTY-SEVEN

MISS SCARLET and the DUKE NO MORE

As someone who has always had a few, what shall we say, reservations about the “endgame” of the titular Miss Scarlet and the Duke, the “breaking news” about the show this week didn’t really surprise me. We all know I have an emotional detachment about these two, so we’ll just leave things there regarding this. Well, this week Stuart Martin announced he wouldn’t be back for the coming fifth season. The show will rebrand as Miss Scarlet and will continue Eliza’s adventures as an investigator alongside Detective Fitzroy, Ivy and yes, Nash, too. What are your thoughts on this? Does this excite you? Devastate? Annoy? Make you feel indifferent? Let us know!

You can read the statement from Martin on the PBS Instagram page. Ps, we also had fun discussing this on our Instagram page, too.

TIVA REUNITES

According to news that broke this week, Paramount+ is ordering a series offshoot of NCIS . This one will center on beloved couple Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David. The pair was last on screen together in 2013, though we’ve seen them both, separately, make appearances on NCIS; including in 2020 when Ziva returns to warn Gibbs about a case. Now, in what would likely be a limited series (at least depending on how it does with audiences), Paramount is going to film a pilot episode with DiNozzo’s Michael Weatherly and David’s Cote de Pablo returning not only to star but be producers, too.

The premiere episode was written by John McNamara and is about Tony and Ziva who raising their daughter, Tali together. It goes on to read as being about unexpected danger “when Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, trying to figure out who is after them — and maybe even learn to trust each other again? […].”

Finally, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo who played these characters well, said in a statement:

“We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready. The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter. We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the ‘Tiva’ movement for years,” the actors added. “To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!”

Will you stay with NCIS for this new spin off? And which are you more excited for, this one or the in-the-works origin story for lead agent, Leroy Jethro Gibbs?

LAST THINGS

A couple of weeks ago, we talked about Stephen Amell (Arrow) leading the upcoming NBC Suits spin-off, Suits: LA. The show has now found its female lead in Lex Scott Davis. According reports, the show will follow Amell’s Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor who “has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. Ted joined forces 15 years ago with his old buddy, Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt will play this role), to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law.” The show begins shooting its pilot in March.

More TV movie news comes in the form of Candace Cameron Bure and Great American Family. This time it’s Bure headlining one of the first mystery movies for the network. She’ll play Ainsley McGregor who is, according to the press release, “a former Chicago criminologist” who returns to Texas to trade in “full-time crime work to open a market for artisans to sell crafts and wares.” However, as we all know, she cannot give up her interest in crime solving. The press release goes on to say, “her skills quickly become a major asset to the quaint town, when a murder occurs at a winery owned by her friend, who now stands accused of the crime.” Aaron Ashmore will co-star.

If you love Ryan Gosling’s Ken, reports say he’ll perform his ‘I’m Just Ken’ song during the Oscars. Does this make you want to watch the show?

In more Great American Family news, Jill Wagner has another Christmas movie coming. She’ll feature in Aurora Christmas in 2024; and she’ll co-star in the movie with another fan favorite Jesse Hutch. pop culture news one hundred and twenty-seven

  1. I’ll miss Stuart Martin as the Duke but actually pretty excited to see where the show goes from here. I’m also really surprised how much Nash has grown on me over the course of the series from how irritating he was at the beginning. Plus, I want to see Fitzroy do well on his own two feet. :)

    1. I’m excited for Fitzroy! He’s such a likable character and I hope, despite William’s absence, he finds how he investigates/works best and if we see William again, they can continue the working relationship they had nicely. :)
