VACATION READS AND THE CHARACTERS TO VACATION WITH
When it comes to culling out lists like character to vacation with, I confess, I’m not the best creative. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to vacation with, say, Elizabeth Bennet (I mean the intellect and sass), but I guess when I’m reading my mind doesn’t really wander to knowing this character would be cool. I’m not sure why since I do enjoy getting to know the characters as I read. Whatever the reason, and despite my complaints, I do still enjoy a fun vacation read, or the idea of what one might be.
LIST | CHARACTERS WHO WORK IN THE NEWS ROOM
VACATION READS AND THE CHARACTERS TO VACATION WITH. #TTTList #TopTenList #BookList #TopTenTuesday #SummerReads #SummerReading #VacationReads Share on XI’m 99.9% sure I’ve already put together books that would be good vacation reads, but yes, I’m repeating myself with this list. I’m going to try to find some books that are more recent that are about characters who vacation or a novel that revolves around a vacation. Whether or not we’ll successfully find good fits, well, this remains to be seen. Let’s dive right in.
CHARACTERS TO VACATION WITH aka VACATION READS
HAPPIENSS FOR BEGINNERS, KATHERINE CENTER
This centers on a woman who takes a trip to kind of find herself again after her life fell apart. Goodreads
LOVE AND OTHER GREAT EXPECTATIONS, BECKY DEAN
A scavenger hunt and a bookish British hero. Goodreads
THERE YOU’LL FIND ME, JENNY B. JONES
A young lady heads to Ireland armed with her brother’s journal, trying to heal and discover the Ireland her brother loved. Goodreads
LOVE YOUR LIFE, SOPHIE KINSELLA
Follows a woman who ditches normal dating and heads to Italy for a writer’s retreat, where of course real love may find her. Goodreads
THE GETAWAY LIST, EMMA LORD
Just added this one to my list and it sounds fun. It’s about a girl who heads to New York to spend some time with her childhood best friend, who no doubt, she will probably fall for. Goodreads
I SEE LONDON, I SEE FRANCE, SARAH MLYNOWSKI
This one has been on my shelf for a long time. It’s about a girl travelling through Europe, and the ex of her friend who shows upon her London flight. Goodreads
THE AUSTEN ESCAPE, KATHERINE REAY
99.9% sure I’ve used this one on a vacation list before but it’s an ideal pick following a woman who goes on an Austen-esque retreat. Goodreads
THE UNSINKABLE GRETA JAMES, JENNIFER E. SMITH
Her first adult novel, I looked at this one a long time before finally picking up a copy. This novel by Smith follows an indie musician who goes on a cruise, trying to escape the plight of what her life has become. Goodreads
LOVE, NATURALLY, SOPHIE SULLIVAN
This one is all about a camping trip and a woman who plans the trip to surprise her boyfriend, only to be dumped instead. Goodreads
LOVE AND OLIVES, JENNA EVANS WELCH
Follows a girl who travels to Greece with plans to spend time with her dad. Goodreads

Linking Up with That Artsy Reader Girl April 16: Characters I’d Like to go on Vacation With (Pretend you’re going on vacation and can bring 10 of your closest friends with you. Pick your vacation spot and tell us who you’d like to bring! Bonus point if you tell us why. Or maybe you like the idea of traveling in small groups, so plan 10 trips or 5 trips!)
I have not read any of these yet, but they all sound like good vacation reads. :)
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
Hoping that they all are. :)
I haven’t read that Center book, but I did watch the movie. That would be an interesting trip to go on.
Right? I suspect we’d have to like a bit of adventure. :)
I have The Austen Escape but haven’t read it yet. It looks like a lovely vacation list. Have a great week!
It’s such a good read as I remember. But then I tend to always like Katherine’s books. :)
I have enjoyed the ones of hers that I have read…I think I have 3 on my shelf that I haven’t read (insert face palm), but slooowly working my way through my unread books.
I need to take that advice and read all of the ones on my shelf by her I haven’t read! The ones I did were among some of my favorites. :)
I really do need to read Love and Olives – I’ve had my eye on it for a while now. Great list, Rissi!
It’s a sweet book as I remember. It’s been a long time now since I read it. :)
Love Jenna Evans Welch stories, always differents settings
That’s fun! Visiting different settings always makes for interesting reads. :)
These all sound so fun! I have The Getaway List on my TBR too and I can’t wait to read it!
Hope we both enjoy The Getaway List! It does sound like a fabulously fun read. :)
I’m listening to LOVE & GELATO right now! I didn’t know it was a series until last week, but I’m glad it is. I’m definitely up for more from the author.
Happy TTT!

I enjoyed the one book by Jenna I read so I’m hoping to read more by her! :)
I haven’t read any of these, but I understand the feeling of getting away to find oneself again. I feel that way now; it’s been a rough few years.

Pam, I am so sorry. I hope this year is starting off better for you and you enjoy a calmer and happier year.
Second time seeing The Austen Escape this week. Maybe it’s a sign.
It’s a fun read! It’s been a while since I read it, but I did love it at the time. :)
Jenna Evans Welch is so great! I absolutely adore Love and Gelato!
I’m so glad! I need to read that one yet. :)
Great list, as always! 🙂
I have a copy of Reay’s novel. It’s been on my shelf FOREVER. One day, I will get to it.
I hope you enjoy Katherine’s when you get around to read it, Nicole. I’ve enjoyed each of the books I’ve read by her. :)
Love and Olives sounds fun, I’ve been meaning to read the entire series so hopefully soon :)
It is fun! I need to read the rest of the novels someday too. :)
