IF YOU LOVE ‘MISS AUSTEN,’ TRY THESE SIMILAR MOVIES
When it comes to discovering a new binge watch or something new we simply really enjoy, sometimes when that come to an end, well, we’re quite sad. This brings us to another of our similar watch lists where today’s subject is the PBS Masterpiece drama Miss Austen. The question we have to answer is what Miss Austen similar movies or TV titles can we find? Hopefully a few!
LIST | WATCH THESE IF YOU LIKE ‘WILD CARDS’
The PBS Masterpiece drama is about Cassandra Austen, the sister of Jane, as a death inspires her to remember what her bond and relationship was like with her sister. From its PBS page, the show’s description reads as being about Cassandra who is “notoriously known for burning Jane’s letters, did Cassandra Austen truly protect her famous sister’s reputation? Immerse in this literary mystery, reimagined as a fascinating, witty, and heart-breaking tale of sisterly love.” I’ve seen episode one and thought it was bittersweet, but also lovely and while the show doesn’t really get into being happy, well, it’s still a compelling and complex and completely gorgeous period drama.

The goal now is to find some things that fit the Miss Austen similar TV or movie titles. Let’s see what there is!
MISS AUSTEN SIMILAR MOVIES or TV TITLES
BECOMING JANE, film
Playing the iconic role in this feature film is Anne Hathaway. This story tells one of young love when Anne falls for Tom Lefroy, a man who is most decidedly not a suitable match because he lacks wealth. The film is bittersweet and not one that is traditionally happy, but is also weirdly sweet if you love all things Austen. In this version, Anna Maxwell Martin plays Cassandra.

LARK RISE to CANDLEFORD, tv series
This, like a couple of other titles featured, isn’t Jane Austen related, but it is about a young girl who, at the decision of her parents (in the hopes she’ll have better opportunities), is sent to live with a cousin in a neighboring town. The heroine, Laura, narrates the stories as an older version of herself and from the many pages and stories she scribbles. This BBC production is all cheerfulness and features more than one love story.

Stream, at publication, on BritBox, the Roku Channel or Tubi TV; or digitally buy on places like Prime Video
LOST in AUSTEN, miniseries
In this miniseries, a modern woman finds herself living at Longbourn and among the Bennet sisters while Elizabeth Bennet travels to modern heroine Amanda’s modern London! The cast is also good in this, and will be full of familiar faces for any of us who love period drama. You’ll see everyone from Hugh Bonneville and Ruby Bentall to Alex Kingston and Jemima Rooper. Then Eliot Cowan plays Darcy, who I think people either love in the role or don’t care about.
Stream, at publication, on BritBox, Prime Video, The Roku Channel or Tubi TV
LOVE & JANE, film
This is a TV film that has Alison Sweeney playing an avid lover of literary who ends up meeting and conversing with Jane Austen herself! I have never seen this one, but it’s from the Hallmark lineup they did of Austen inspired flicks a year or better ago. Kendra Anderson plays Jane in this version.
Stream, at publication, with Hallmark+; or digitally rent / purchase on places like Prime Video
THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS, film
This one is a biopic about Charles Dickens with beloved Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens stepping into the role. The film chronicles Dickens life while he writes his now famous A Christmas Carol film.

Digitally rent or purchase on places like Prime Video
MISS AUSTEN REGRETS, film
In this 90-some minute BBC film, Greta Scacchi plays Cassandra and Olivia Williams Jane, a woman nearing forty who decides she’s going to make a match for her niece. I saw this years ago, but cannot remember much about it expect that I think it was entertaining.
Stream, at publication, with BritBox, The Roku Channel or Tubi TV.
MISS POTTER, film
A film with Renee Zellweger, this biographical story chronicles the life of Beatrix Potter and her grand love story that ends in heartbreak.
Stream, at publication, with Hoopla, Peacock, Prime Video, Plex, The Roku Channel or Tubi TV; or digitally rent / purchase on places like Prime Video
TO WALK INVISIBLE, miniseries
This miniseries recounts the lives of the Bronte sisters. I’ve never seen it, but I have a feeling it’s like Miss Austen or any similar biography film or story about iconic writers.
Stream, at publication, with Fubo or PBS Masterpiece
