‘MY LIFE IS MURDER,’ SERIES FOUR: MORE MYSTERIES TO SOLVE!

Returning for its fourth year with eight episodes, Lucy Lawless returns as the former detective turned breadmaking sleuth Alexa Crowe. My Life is Murder series four starts off well and brings the same kind of enthusiasm we so love best about this show.

As is their normal routine and the rule of how Alexa (Lawless) receives her cases, bringing her a new case is detective Harry Henare (Rawiri Jobe). This time the case he brings is that of the death of a wealthy influencer. Found along the beach, at first Alexa doesn’t see anything suspicious. But when she looks a little closer, curiosity is piqued and so she takes the case for her friend Harry.

Together with her tech genius Madison (Ebony Vagulans), the two women investigate this murder including the victim’s prominent hairstylists; a friend; and her heir, who happens to be a black cat.

Broken record is my trend when reviewing this type of show. Set in New Zealand, this dramedy is without question one of my most favorites. It’s entertaining and fun and features a cast who are not only good in these roles, but also bring us memorable characters. While we get two less episodes in this series, there’s still good mysteries to walk through. While I wish these seasons would last slightly longer, I also respect the short seasons if this type of production quality is the result.

Basically, everything about My Life Is Murder series four is memorable. I love everything (did I mention this already?), and just in general the tone of the production and its stories. The season relies on trends like social media influencing and also archery. We also see Alexa still making her homemade bread, too. (Side note, this review is a first impression. I haven’t seen the entire season yet.)

Fun and mysterious and entertaining, this season promises to be one not to miss. Its leading lady is hard not to like and I enjoy the camaraderie of everyone including the casual way Harry and even the bakery owner, chime in at various points in the investigation to help. Alexa’s approach to crime solving is also this endearing mix of unbothered and casual. In the end, if you like the first three series, you’ll not wish to miss this fourth year.

You can stream My Life is Murder series four (first two episodes) on Acorn TV starting June 17th.

Content: nothing much to note outside of the crimes and deaths. We usually see photographs of bodies and there is talk of affairs and sex, but not in a graphic way. The show is TV-14.
