SUMMER MOVIES PERFECT TO ADD TO YOUR STREAMING LIST

Summertime is unofficially here and rolling in. The calendar may not have it officially starting yet, but we all know May’s entrance and nicer weather is what really gets things going. As a result, perhaps we’re all outside more and care less about movies, but regardless of this, we’re bringing you another summer movies to watch list, after a year or two off from putting together a new version. You know, for those Saturday nights when you do stay in.

LIST | MOVIES TO WATCH WITH DAD ON FATHERS DAY 2024 EDITION

Like every list before this, we do try to find new titles we didn’t include from years like 2020, 2021 or 2022 (we even have a short Mermaid movie list), but there is no guarantee we didn’t repeat some. Let’s see what we find that fits on this list.

SUMMER MOVIES TO WATCH

A CINDERLLA STORY

This film turns twenty years old this summer, and so featuring it here on our list is kind of a must. This because it’s one of those nostalgic classics we love. Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray are just two of the faces you’ll see in this charming and wholesome teen romance that loosely retells the Cinderella legend. Purchase on places like Amazon and Apple

ALONG FOR THE RIDE

Based on the novel by Sarah Dessen, this one is all kinds of charming and cute. It’s about a girl who goes to stay with her father for the summer, and discovers another insomniac lives in her father’s town. Stream, at publication, on Netflix

ANYONE BUT YOU

If you don’t mind R-rated sort of raunchy comedies, Anyone But You is entertaining. Mostly. I love the cast (current “it” stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell) and think the plot is fun, along with the funny meet-cute. Stream, at publication, with Netflix

ARGYLLE

We all need to see a fun spy caper once in a while, right? This is that and then some, and I feel like anyone who doesn’t mind silly will love this. Stream exclusively with Apple TV

BARBIE

A film that made a splash in theaters, Barbie is charming in a perfect end-of-day entertainment kind of way if you want something silly and fun. Stream, at publication, with HBO Max summer movies to watch

BLUE CRUSH

Never saw this one, but Kate Bosworth stars as a young woman who lets nothing (until someone does!) come between her and surfing in Hawaii. Stream, at publication, with Starz

COUPLES RETREAT

Finally watched this for the first time, and am quite surprised by the fact that this Vince Vaughn starrer does have some poignant moments. Sure, it also have plenty of crude adult (aka sexual) humor but it has moments that don’t fit this typical mold and it in this that the film works. Stream, at publication, on Peacock

CUTHROAT ISLAND

Geena Davis stars in this pirate film that came along before Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean was even in our crystal ball. It’s been a long time since I saw it, but do remember it being fun. Stream, at publication, with Freevee and Tubi

DON’T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER’S DEAD

Featuring Christina Applegate in an eldest sister role and the shenanigans she and her siblings get up to while their mother is away. Stream, at publication, with Cinemax or Tubi

FREE GUY

Ryan Reynolds stars in this kind of silly sci-fi film that is a kind of video game-esque film. Stream, at publication, on Disney+

THE IDEA OF YOU

Anne Hathaway leads in this Amazon Prime original inspired by the novel of the same name. It follows a woman attending a music festival (feels VERY summer-esque!) who falls for a band member years younger than her 40-year-old single mom character. The film is rated R, and so it won’t be something everyone is interested in watching. Stream on Amazon Prime

INTO THE BLUE

Follows a group of friends who plan for an extreme sports weekend surfing and diving, only to find sunken treasure and find they end up being the prey of ruthless criminals. Stream, at publication, with HBO Max

JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO

Never seen this one, but it’s one of three pairings between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, though perhaps their least famous. Based on its promo material, it looks like a good fit for this summer movies to watch list. Available to purchase on Apple or Amazon

LOVE AND GELATO

Pretty sure this film has to be darling. I only just finished the novel on which it’s based, and am now excited to finally see the movie. Though if it follows the book, they’re is a heavy topic. Stream exclusively on Netflix

THE LOVE PUNCH

Super fun and entertaining, this is a caper style film with Emma Thompson and Pierce Bronson. Stream, at publication, on Amazon or with Plex

LOVEWRECKED

This follows a girl who has quite a crush on a pop star, and believing that she, along with him, become stranded on a tropical island, when she learns they aren’t, she keeps him in the dark hoping he’ll fall head over heels for her. Stream, at publication, with Starz

ONLY YOU

A film about fate and a romance between Robert Downy Jr. and Marisa Tomei. Not a favorite of mine, this film is a little too fantasy-esque for my liking. Stream, at publication, with Starz

SPLASH

This is an 80s mermaid movie with Tom Hanks about a woman who ends up living on land for a while and falling head over heels for Hanks leading man. Stream, at publication, with Disney+ summer movies to watch

TICKET TO PARADISE

Julia Roberts and George Clooney reunite in this hilarious 2022 comedy about exes who reunite for their daughter’s spontaneous wedding. Stream, at publication, with Starz

WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON

I don’t know what season this film is set in, but it feels like a summer-y movie. It’s got Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace and Kate Bosworth, all in one of their early days roles. Stream, at publication, with Apple Paramount+ or Apple Showtime

Have you seen any of these? Which movies do you watch during the summer? Do you watch seasonal movies or new ones? What movies would you put on a summer movies to watch list? Comment all of your thoughts down in the comment sections below. Let’s talk.
