FALL 2024 TV PREVIEW

sorted by premiere date; then a-z

please note, some of these titles have adult content, and as a result some of the trailers or clips included below may reflect this.

HIGH POTENTIAL (CBS) – SEPTEMBER 17

ABOUT: Kaitlin Olsen stars in this drama as a single mother who has an exceptional mind which she uses in partnership with a “seasoned detective.”

THOUGHTS: As someone who watches crime dramas, this one does sound interesting (aka fun in the way of Castle or CW’s Wild Cards) and I’ll be curious to see Olsen in something after her last TV show, which was an overdone, and ridiculous comedy. I’m also curious to see Daniel Sunjata in a TV role.

Update: enjoyed this one

MATLOCK (CBS) – SEPTEMBER 22

ABOUT: A reboot of the classic drama. Kathy Bates is set to step into the role Andy Griffith made famous.

RESCUE: HI-SURF (FOX) – SEPTEMBER 22

ABOUT: This is to be set in O’ahu, and will follow “dedicated” lifeguards. Arielle Kebbel will lead this drama.

BRILLIANT MINDS (NBC) – SEPTEMBER 23

ABOUT: Follows a “revolutionary” neurologist, and his team as they “explore” the human minds. This drama also says it will follow the main characters as they deal with their own mental health and relationships.

MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN (FOX) – SEPTEMBER 24

ABOUT: TV vet Kristin Kruek returns as one part of the leading duo in this drama that will follow a “big city” detective named Karl Alberg who moves to a coastal town in the hopes it will “soothe” his battered soul, unaware that he will encounter more than he plans for.

THOUGHTS: This one does sound interesting to me. It sounds more like a slow-moving crime drama that digs a bit deeper into things, which reminds me of British drama, a genre in which I have many favorites.

Update: my first impression of this one is good! I watched the first episode and reviewed it

DOCTOR ODYSSEY (ABC) – SEPTEMBER 26

ABOUT: This one is a Ryan Murphy (9-1-1, American Horror Story) drama that has few details according to research, but will follow a doctor aboard a cruise ship. Joshua Jackson will lead the cast.

THOUGHTS: Do we think this could have a kind of Royal Pains feel?

NCIS: ORIGINS (CBS) – OCTOBER 14

ABOUT: This one will follow the early career (1990s) of lead agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, likely in the aftermath of the loss of his wife and daughter after he leaves the Marines and joins NCIS, which at the time was NIS.

THOUGHTS: First announced earlier this year, NCIS: Origins will be the latest offshoot from the OG CBS procedural NCIS. The character, who we met when Mark Harmon originated the role back in the early 2000s, at this time in the characters life it will likely be in the aftermath of his wife’s death which did haunt Harmon’s Gibbs.

GEORGIE and MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE (CBS) – OCTOBER 17

ABOUT: Follows the titular couple as they set up a life in Texas post Young Sheldon.

THOUGHTS: CBS, as another article points out, is going for nostalgia and familiarity with their new shows. Lots of spin-offs and familiar characters.

HAPPY’S PLACE (NBC) – OCTOBER 18

ABOUT: Half-sisters, who don’t exactly get along, inherit a bar after their dad passed away.

THOUGHTS: There’s been much buzz about this half-hour sitcom with the return of Reba to TV, plus the addition of Melissa Peterman in the cast, which means the Reba co-stars are reuniting.

THE MARLOW MURDER CLUB (PBS) – OCTOBER 27

ABOUT: This will follow a group of women with different interests and knowledge as they solve a mysterious crime!

THE LIBRARIANS: THE NEXT CHAPTER (CW) – delayed

ABOUT: A new group of protectors and “keepers” of magical items have new challenges when they must help a librarian stuck in their modern era. Update: originally this was set to debut on October 24, but CW pulled it (for some reason), and no new date has been given, meaning it likely will debut midseason at the earliest.

MORE NEW SHOWS: Joan (CW) on October 2; Citadel: Diana (Prime Video) on October 10; Poppa’s House (CBS) on October 21; Territory (Netflix) on October 24; Citadel: Honey Bunny (Prime Video) on November 7; St. Denis Medical (NBC) on November 12; Cross (Prime Video) on November 14; Landman (Paramount+) on November 17; plus more.

    1. Fun! I never did finish season one of Ghosts OR Tracker. I LOVED the latter though and while I’m miffed with the direction of Miss Scarlet (though on the other hand I do LOVE that William stood up for himself), I am curious to see what’s coming in this new season!
