‘HOT FROSTY’ HAS LACEY CHABERT IN REALLY CUTE CHRISTMAS FAIRYTALE
A former teen star who is now familiar to Hallmark viewers, Hot Frosty has a plot that is, well, quite silly.

Losing her husband two years ago has made Kathy (Lacey Chabert) guarded but keeping busy in her work as a cafe owner helps. She still goes about her days and is living life, though she never really heals. Christmas is nearly here which normally isn’t something Kathy , but then the unexpected happens when she meets a stranger.
This isn’t an ordinary stranger though. It’s Jack (Dustin Milligan), a snowman come to life who was sculpted in the town’s competition. You see, he comes alive in a granted wish, but will his presence help or hinder his host’s healing?

For a good many years now, Lacey Chabert has made her kind of home working on Hallmark. She has several films to her credit with them, so seeing her headline a film on Netflix is surprising. It’s still fun though to see her somewhere else in a film that leans heavily, right from the start, into fairy tales. I don’t love the entire cast but do think it’s fabulous fun to see Katy Mixon Greer after meeting her in the now cancelled American Housewife. She, along with Craig Robinson, also adds some good humor and Hot Frosty is no different. The script adds some kind of meta moments that only people who enjoy pop culture will probably catch. It’s hilarious and funny.
While many will thoroughly enjoy this film, it’s a title that falls into the too silly movies for me. I don’t typically like movies that have a leading character who is so hard to take seriously. Obviously, there is good reason to not take the character seriously, but it’s still just a bit much in my perspective. At the same time, it does surprise me by being more heartwarming that I’d expect and the reverse Pretty Woman moment is cute, too. The film will make you smile, and that’s precisely what most festive Christmas movies should accomplish.
