‘FAMILY SWITCH’ IS CUTE NETFLIX MOVIE ABOUT RECONNECTING
One of the movies to debut on Netflix in this past year, Family Switch isn’t great. But it is entertaining and a nice option for a family movie night together.
Family Switch (2023) Netflix Review
The Walker family is thriving individually, but together? Well, they haven’t been connecting for quite a while. Mom Jess (Jennifer Garner) is about to earn a hard won partnership in the architectural firm where she works. Dad Bill (Ed Helms) is trying to recapture some of his former glory days as a band member, while teaching band at the local high school. Son Wyatt (Brady Noon) has a crush on his childhood best friend, and daughter, CC (Emma Myers), well, she lives and breathes soccer, all for the goal of being recruited.
When Jess plans a family outing for the whole family, she gets attitude about it. When the night ends in squabbling, the family wakes the next morning to find they aren’t quite themselves, and have swapped lives (and bodies!) with each other.
FILM REVIEW | ‘HOME TEAM’: A FUNNY COMEDY WITH KEVIN JAMES
‘FAMILY SWITCH’ IS CUTE NETFLIX MOVIE ABOUT RECONNECTING. #JenniferGarner stars in #Netflix's comedy. #ComedyMovie #FamilyMovies #FamilyMovie #FamilySwitch Share on XThis one caught my eye because of Jennifer Garner who stars in some of the more nostalgic flicks from the early 2000s. Of course, the plot is also similar to Disney’s famous Freaky Friday, and after you see this, you’ll find plenty of similarities. The script, penned by the Made of Honor writer, the story is familiar and, in this way, not unique. What is special about it is the shift everyone undergoes and the changes they make to their lives.
Family Switch is, easily, one of the better flicks to watch if you’re looking for something recent to enjoy on a family movie night. Everyone is different and so it will depend on what you watch with your kids whether or not you think this is a good fit. I think it’s a cute movie that was produced with that in mind, and it mostly works as a family friendly movie. The kids are rebellious at times, but they aren’t always unfairly so, and that’s something to place in the plus column.
With a good endgame conclusion and a good cast, Family Switch isn’t the best family movie, but it’s a solid contender that did, admittedly, make me giggle out loud a time or two. That alone, in this world that isn’t always funny, is a big pro.
You can stream Family Swift exclusively on Netflix.
Content: there is some minor crude humor (dog peeing, and someone slips in the puddle, there’s some “fart” jokes). Kids are disrespectful and saying things to their parents with the intention of hurting them. There’s some defiance. There may be a minor profanity or two. The film is PG.
