Renewal news was in the air this week. This includes season two orders for two different streaming shows. The first is a second season handout going to the Disney+ (and Hulu) show The Artful Dodger. The Hulu period drama features Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis, and Maia Mitchell, and is a kind of alternate look at the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. Then according to Netflix, Emma Myers aka Pippa Fitz-Amobi will return for season two of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. This second season will be based on the second book, which is Good Girl, Bad Blood, and is being written by author Holly Jackson. It will also return co-star Zain Iqbal playing Pip’s partner in crime Ravi Singh. The season will be six episodes and picks up after the first season.

Also from Netflix, My Life with the Walter Boys will return officially in 2025 and will follow “a few fresh faces joining the cast to shake things up.” The returning faces include, but aren’t limited to, Nikki Rodriguez, Sarah Rafferty, Marc Blucas, Noah LaLonde and Ashby Gentry. From Netflix, here are the new character names and my interpretation of their characters:

  • B. Hartford played by Natalie Sharp will feature as a rodeo rider who may interest a Walter boy!
  • Zach played by Carson MacCormac will feature as a “strikingly” good looking and “dangerous” student. Zach also makes attempts to befriend someone in the Walter family.
  • Joanne Wagner played by Janet Kidder will feature as Grace’s mom and a friend of Katherine.
  • Maria played by Riele Downs will feature as Maria, a girl who shares a class with Alex.
  • Jake Manley plays Wylder Holt played by Jake Manley will feature as a star in the rodeo scene as a “broc rider,” who is a “force” and someone who meets Alex. Jake may also be familiar to anyone who likes Hallmark.

Via their social media, Netflix always reveals that season two of XO, Kitty (the spin off from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) will drop January 16. The network also shared some first look images and video for the January second season.

If you love Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter, the actor will reprise (reporting is three episodes) his role in the spinoff Suits: LA. The series will start in February on NBC.

Production wrapped on the rom-com 40 Dates and 40 Nights with Bailee Madison. The comedy is a romance described (in part), by the producer, “When I read the script for 40 Dates, it reminded me of the golden age of rom-coms; I could not stop laughing.” Bailee Madison of course was also in Hallmark’s Good Witch and appears in Pretty Little Liars (the recent ‘Original Sin’ version), too.

Amazon MGM will be bringing Colleen Hoover’s Verity to the big screen. According to Goodreads, the book is, in part, about Lowen Ashleigh who “is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.” She uncovers chaos and secrets, all of which she keeps hidden, along with her feelings for Jeremy. According to Instagram posts and online articles, Anne Hathaway will star as Verity, while other cast has not yet been announced.

NETFLIX REVIEW | ‘THE MERRY GENTLEMEN’ UNWRAPS A CHEEKY CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY

This past week (the 18th), the 1994 film Miracle on 34th Street celebrated its anniversary! We celebrated this film, which I’ve seen way too many times (and love), by reviving a post from 2021 and reflecting on what we love about this one.

In funny millennial pop culture news, Matthew McConaughey recreates a poster from a favorite role. As part of an ad campaign, McConaughey and his wife, Camila, recreate the poster for How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. The pair share the image to their Instagram pages and a little behind the scenes clip of its creation.

ABC drops a teaser for the 2025 TV comedy Shifting Gears. The comedy will star Tim Allen and Kat Dennings as an estranged father and daughter.

Finally, check Prime Video for deals on add on channels going on now. In some cases the add on channels (like Starz, PureFlix or Hallmark+) are 75% off. So if you’ve been looking to try streaming services, now may be the time. Only be sure to cancel your subscription if you don’t want to pay full price after the promotional window. For most of these subscription additions, the monthly price will rise after two months. For example, Hallmark+ will go from $2.00/month for 2 months (with this current deal) to nearly $8/month after this.
