‘A CARPENTER CHRISTMAS ROMANCE’ IS ONE OF THE MORE ADULT SEASONAL ROMANCES
Adding another title from the It’s a Wonderful Lifetime movie lineup to my watched list, A Carpenter Christmas Romance is one of the spicier Christmas movies.
A Carpenter Christmas Romance (2024) Lifetime TV Review
Writing best-selling fantasy romance is something Andrea Metcalf (Sasha Pieterse) does very well. Her status as a fan favorite author and appearing on prestigious book lists prove this. When one of the pages from her next novel is leaked with an ending that causes a boycott, Andrea is convinced by her sister (Kaley McCormack) who is also her agent, to return to a small community where they used to spend Christmas.
Here she was known as “Andi,” and it’s here she also knew Seth (Mitchell Slaggert). A nice guy she once shared a kind of friendship with who has matured into an even nicer guy. As they continue to bump into each other around town, and get to know each other again, they discover there may be more to each other than they expect.
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT’: NOT WHAT I HOPED FOR BUT IT’S STILL WORTH A WATCH
‘A CARPENTER CHRISTMAS ROMANCE’ IS ONE OF THE MORE ADULT SEASONAL ROMANCES. #Lifetime #ChristmasMovies #CarpenterChristmas #Romance Share on XThis, like one of their films from last year, is a Lifetime had some buzz because of the sexier leanings. Written by Sarah Drew and featuring a familiar teen drama star, A Carpenter Christmas Romance has its charms. What I think works well for this one is using the cultural idea of an author being turned on. It feels very relevant in a world that is ultra sensitive and even based on headlines we see. The story uses more than one trope and like anything, it has some dramatics, too.
Still, despite some of these perhaps failings, I do think this film is good. It has some surprising depth, which isn’t something I would anticipate going in. I like that there is a bit more to these characters backstory, though this doesn’t make some of it still silly. (I also realize that this film isn’t popular after looking at the 20-something percent user rating.) The film is heavy on the guy doing all the wrong things in a would-be relationship which isn’t my thing, but I forgive it these errors.
If you are still watching Christmas movies and don’t mind one with more adult scenes, this one has all of the usual nostalgia and emotion, including a declaration of love (which isn’t my favorite). Regardless, the film still has a knack of being sweet.
Stream, at publication, A Carpenter Christmas Romance on MyLifetime or digitally buy or rent on Prime Video
Content: this one has a sex scene with lots of heavy kissing and removal of clothing leading in. There is then a “post” scene with the pair lying in bed under the sheets having a conversation. Later, a question comes up about if sex was good. There is lots of make out scenes after this and another of the pair falling into bed again (clothed); plus another post scene in bed eating food. The film is TV-PG, but would fit more of a TV-14 rating.
