RANKING THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES of 2024 PART TWO: HOW WOULD YOU RANK THESE?
We’re back with a rank the Christmas movies of 2024 part two! A list that’s always all about fun and sharing what we did and didn’t love about some of the movies we saw this year. Already we posted up a part one version so it’s time to kind of roundup the rest we saw and share, including a final ranking (although I’m sure we’ll see a few more here and there) in the bottom of this list.
LIST | SOME OF THE BEST AND WACKIEST(!) UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS
Since our last list, at this point I’ve only seen about 30 or so (out of what a hundred new titles?). So while not even close to seeing everything, it’s still a good number of titles! Like usual, I’m sharing this ‘rank the Christmas movies’ list from the least to most favorite – and as always, we want to know how you would rank the titles you’ve seen.

‘TIS the SEASON to be IRISH
Cute, but ultimately one I’d categorize as “forgettable*,” what I do love best about this is the gorgeous setting! Like I say year after year though, it’s not that I didn’t still enjoy this one (it’s still fun and cute)… it was just one that won’t stand out for me. *And by this I mean while I would watch it again, it’s not one I’d watch year after year like I have other movies in this genre.

LEAH’S PERFECT GIFT
This one was cute, but is also ordinary (I felt like I’d see a version of this many times) and as a result, kind of normal. It’s about family, doing the usual Christmas traditions, and trying to fit into it all.

THE SANTA CLASS
Kimberley Sustad stars in this as a woman who kind of got stuck running her dad’s business. Paul Campbell isn’t her leading man in this one, but he does appear which I’m sure will delight many.

GET HIM BACK for CHRISTMAS
The only film I watched from Great American Family this year, this one is cute. What makes it fun is that it features real-life married couple Carlos and Alexa PenaVega; and full disclosure, I ran out of time and didn’t finish this one. Yet. Sometimes (like my next pick) , these TV movies are a tiny bit too sentimental and so that will down my rating.

A REASON for the SEASON
I didn’t finish this one, but it’s sweet. For me, like many, it’s just a bit too sentimental so it’s not a personal favorite as a result. This said, I know many love the nostalgic elements so I suspect that this Hallmark Mystery title is a fan favorite. And I can appreciate this.

THE FINNISH LINE
I like this one more than I thought! It’s cute and I appreciate that it’s more wintery than strictly Christmas.

SUGARPLUMMED
I “have” to place this one up a big higher simply because it can make fun of itself (and the genre at large) while also still being a cute Christmas flick.

PRIVATE PRINCESS CHRISTMAS
This one doesn’t seem well liked or loved. But for the subgenre (aka the royal romance), I was impressed with this one which is what earns it extra rungs. It’s different and has more to it than most. Plus the prayer addition and lack of your-a-royal-and-I’m-not conversation helps to make this one more unique.

JINGLE BELL RUN
This one has the misunderstanding trope which I find super annoying, but it is a cute plot (a woman who likes safety competes in an seasonal cross country challenge) and has a more unique concept.

THE HOLIDAY JUNKIE
Emotional, this one has lots of seriousness because of loss. I actually thought it was pretty cute and is another one that features a couple married in real life.

TRADING UP CHRISTMAS
Italia Ricci stars in this title about a woman with a big heart who sets out to find a place to call home for her sister.

A CARPENTER CHRISTMAS ROMANCE
By genre comparison, this is an adult romance, but I did quite like it. It has drama, but it also gives its heroine some gumption and she recognizes that the hero needs see what an impact and what he means to others. It’s nice to see films write that kind of understanding into a script because relationships in film (and likely real life too) often just lean into the misunderstanding and it often doesn’t work.

HANUKKAH on the ROCKS
This one surprised me. I thought it was a really cute and actually fun to see the setting (primarily) take place in a bar which is not something we ever see in a Christmas movie. It adds a kind of fun new energy and makes it a cute watch.

RED ONE
A big screen release that falls under the MGM company, which is an Amazon company, this one has Dwayne Johnson, J.K. Simmons and Chris Evans all playing a role in saving Christmas, and Simmons’ Santa, too! It’s fun and if you like more adventurous seasonal movies, well you’ll enjoy this.

Note: Adding a disclaimer though it kind of makes me sad that I feel like I have to add this because social media is, well, defensive. Same as I have said before (from prior year rankings), just because these aren’t a favorite doesn’t mean they aren’t still sweet. And I can appreciate what I did like about them while also recognizing that some, for various reasons, didn’t work for me. And this is okay. This list isn’t meant to be anything other than be about having fun and asking you to share what your favorites are too!
Ok, now it’s your turn. How do the Christmas movies of 2024 stack up for you? Which ones do you still plan to see? Which ones should I still make time for? Comment all of your thoughts below.
