‘HANUKKAH ON THE ROCKS’ IS ANOTHER REALLY CUTE HALLMARK MOVIE

Cute, just like anything else debuting on popular TV channels this time of year, Hanukkah on the Rocks is one of the last few movies in Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas lineup.

Hanukkah on the Rocks (2024) TV Film Review

Losing her job wasn’t on the busy and overloaded to-do list Tory (Stacey Farber) has every day. In some ways, she is glad, but then there is also the weight of answering what to do next? Until she can answer this, she allows a distraction in the form of finding the best Hannukah candles, a task her grandmother sends her on. While going on this search, she meets Jay (Daren Kagasoff), a grandson who, while visiting his grandfather is searching for the same thing.

When this chance encounter leads Tory to filling a temporary bartender job at a small local bar, the answers everyone has just may be answered this holiday season.

This is one of those movies I respect because its casts newer faces or ones unknown to Hallmark. I love this because it means there are very few or no expectations going in. I’ve seen Stacey in a couple prior titles, but this is by far the one I like her best in so far. She seems at ease with a fun personality, which means we like her. Daren too is good and I enjoyed him as a leading man.

With the same themes such as trying to figure life out, seasonal cheer, and of course, romance, too, Hanukkah on the Rocks is as fun as anything else you’ll find with this network moniker. There’s lots of silliness (like usual) but the primary setting makes this one different. Overall, I like all the characters and the exaggeration of the oft-interrupted (purposefully so) kiss is darling. This said, two things do annoy; the persistence of trying to get Jay to do something that maybe isn’t what he needs or wants right now as well as the final ten-minute drama. Good news is they redeem the latter by confronting it right away. Irrespective of this, this is good fun that I did enjoy.

You can stream Hanukkah on the Rocks with Peacock (note: these films rotate in and out frequently); or watch for encore showings on Hallmark Channel

Content: nothing to note that goes outside of the usual TV-G rating. There is a brief mention of (presumably) a divorce (if that offends) and a kiss or two, but again, nothing deserves mention.
