POP CULTURE NEWS 178: ‘MISS SCARLET’ AND FRIENDS WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR; DANNY REAGAN IS OFF TO BOSTON! ✨ #MissScarletPBS #BlueBloods #BostonBlue Share on XPOP CULTURE NEWS 178
BLUE BLOODS transitions to BOSTON BLUE
A Paramount+ press release had news about Blue Bloods or rather a “universe expansion of the long-running top drama Blue Bloods.” The show is described as being a “straight to series order” for the working title Boston Blue. The drama will star Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as Danny Reagan which would be a part of the 2015-2026 broadcast season. The press release also goes on to say that Danny “takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”
All of this is mysterious and begs a lot of questions such as will we see other of the Reagan family? Or what does this mean for how Blue Bloods ended?
MISS SCARLET returns
In more exciting news from the week, Masterpiece PBS is renewing Miss Scarlet for a sixth season! The show will have Kate Phillips will return in the titular role, and will also have Tom Durant-Pritchard, Cathy Belton, Paul Bazely, Simon Ludders, and Tim Chipping. According to the official website, Ansu Kabia will additionally return as beloved character Moses. There will be new characters, too. According to the website release, this upcoming season will show the relationship of Eliza and Blake, which was “once-fraught […] evolve, they find that working together may be a tricky prospect. Meanwhile, newlyweds Ivy and Potts adjust to married life, a new detective settles in at Scotland Yard, and Nash causes chaos, even from across the globe. Joining this season’s adventures in his greatly anticipated return is Moses Valentine, who swoops in to help Eliza and her crew, just when they need him most.”
In the same article, EP Patty Lenahan Ishimoto also says, “Season six brings exciting twists, new faces, and the return of beloved characters.”
NEW ROM-COM with POPULAR STARS
Regretfully and neglectfully, I forgot to share the news that Prime Video would be dropping a new rom-com. On March sixth, Picture This will drop and will star Simone Ashley and Hero Fiennes. The plot will follow a photographer who learns that on one of her next five dates, she’ll meet her soul mate. Complications arise when her ex also returns to the picture. The trailer also dropped in the last week or so.
This one has popular young stars, which I’m sure is something filmmakers are banking on making this a popular hit. The plot reminds me of Lucky 7, an early 2000s comedy that had Kimberly Williams and Patrick Dempsey in a film about a woman convinced that the “lucky 13” man she meets is “the one.”
LAST THINGS
Best remembered for her role in the 1980s (and subsequent) adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, a series based on novels by L.M. Montgomery, Megan Follows is going to play Montgomery in a new biopic currently titled Maud. Lucy. Of course, Follows played the titular Anne in the Sullivan productions which are beloved by many, so this news has fans all in their “feels.”
In the upcoming season of Nobody Wants This, Leighton Meester will join the Netflix cast as a foil to Joanne, playing her middle school nemesis and a woman who is now a “mommy influencer.” Meester is, of course, the wife of Kristen Bell’s (Joanne) co-star Adam Brody.
According to their Twitter page, NBC has given Happy’s Place a second season renewal. The ½ hour comedy has Reba in the lead role as a bar owner where the employees do through ups and downs in their lives.
More renewal news includes CBS dramas like NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney, too. Even more renewals for the 2025 – 2026 season include Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Fire Country, and Tracker. Ghosts to earned two season renewals.

I don’t know these headlines. I come here for the news. I’ll probably watch Picture This.
I think Picture This seems fun! I also suspect that it’ll do well because of Simone Ashley. :)
