Hello, and welcome back. The pop culture stories this past week may be slim, but since it’s the weekly tradition of looking at the stories making the headlines we’re forging ahead, hopeful there is more to find than the “first blush” impression of stories. the weekly news 190

The Upfronts, which according to an article from 2022, is “used to refer to the presentations that TV networks, CTV platforms and streaming services host to pitch their programming and ad products to advertisers and agencies, but really these presentations are just the most public expression of the TV advertising upfront cycle,” were held this past week. During which lots of TV decisions (like renewals) and fall (which is the prime-time slot) schedules were solidified.
Below, discover some of the Netflix highlights from this event.
- Dropping in 2025 is My Life with the Walter Boys season two. But this won’t be all we see of Jackie and the Walter family. They’ll be back for a third season, presumably dropping next year.
- In news that delights everyone but me, Netflix renewed a handful of its popular shows, including, renewing Bridgerton for season 5 and 6, with four slated to drop in 2026.
- In other Netflix renewal news, the streamer will bring back Forever (ahead of its first season premiere); The Diplomat (season four); and The Four Seasons (season two).
NBC gave a season two order to The Hunting Party at the start of this week. The concept of this mystery is a former FBI profiler is brought into a mission hunting dangerous escaped convicts, which involves an off the grid prison, and the man who once had her heart. That show has Melissa Roxburgh, Nick Wechsler (Revenge) Josh Mackenzie, Sara Garcia (The Flash); and Patrick Sabongui (The Flash).

Prime Video is ready to pink-ify your summer – in 2026, that is! – with the drop of their prequel series Elle. The by now famous series has Lexi Minetree starring in the role of Elle Woods (which Reese Witherspoon made iconic) during her years of high school. Witherspoon is serving as producer with her production company Hello Sunshine and put up another look at the show through her social media pages.
As the string of TV news continues, but in old news (because I neglected to see this!), BritBox will bring US viewers a second season of their funny mystery, Ludwig. The announcement caption says “Our favorite puzzle setter-turned-star detective is officially returning for a second season! Season 2 of #Ludwig is coming to #BritBox in 2026.”
After two years of being simply “Max,” the streaming service will now revert to its former name HBO Max. From the press release, they say “At the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation in New York today, it was announced that Max, the company’s premier streaming platform, will be rebranded HBO Max this summer.” Further explaining this, the release goes on to say, in part, “This evolution has also been influenced by changing consumer needs, and the fact that no consumer today is saying they want more content, but most consumers are saying they want better content. With other services filling the more basic needs with volume, WBD has clearly distinguished itself through its quality and distinct stories […] Returning the HBO brand into HBO Max will further drive the service forward and amplify the uniqueness that subscribers can expect from the offering. It is also a testament to WBD’s willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach – leaning heavily on consumer data and insights – to best position itself for success.”
