THE EXCITING 2024 BOOKS I BOUGHT (BUT THEN NEVER READ!)
A few weeks ago, I already shared a list of 2024 book releases by authors that I didn’t read but should have (because favorite authors). As a result today’s list of 2024 book releases I was excited about (but didn’t read) may feel repetitive. This said, I do plan to find some additional books I haven’t read in 2024 but wanted to read, though boring will probably drive this list.
LIST |20+ FOOTBALL ROM-COM FICTION (FOR THE GIRLS WHO DON’T LOVE GAME DAY!)
THE EXCITING 2024 BOOKS I BOUGHT (BUT THEN NEVER READ!). Chatting about the books I should have read last year… and (surprise! *sarcasm*) didn't. #TopTen #TopTenList #TopTenTuesday #BookList Share on XI will just say yes, many of these are repeat titles that I’ve featured on prior lists. What can I say. I guess I’m determined to like these. Instead of chatting (which I sometimes do way too much of in these openings), let’s find books to feature.
2024 BOOK RELEASES I SHOULD HAVE READ (and DIDN’T)
THE BLONDE IDENTITY, ALLY CARTER
This one did sound like such fun and I was really curious to read it. Alas, here we are. It collects dust and nothing else. Should I read this one? Goodreads
THE MOST WONDERFUL CRIME of the YEAR, ALLY CARTER
Adding this one may be unfair since it did release last in 2024. This said, I did think this book looked (and of course sounds) darling, so I did want to sneak it in. Hoping after the excitement and buildup I have, it’s worth the wait! Goodreads
THE ROM-COMMERS, (OR ANY BOOK BY) KATHERINE CENTER
Based on the cover art alone and how much I did enjoy Happiness for Beginners, I hope to enjoy this. It just looks like a delightfully cheerful read. It also should have been high on my must list so yes, this one will be a priority in 2025! Goodreads
THIS TIME NEXT YEAR, SOPHIE COUSENS
I’m not sure when this book released (a few years ago I think so not a 2024 release), but I should have read it in 2024 because an adaptation was made. And if a story as a film interests me, I do try to read the book first unless it’s based on classic lit (which we know I never read!). The hope is to read this asap. Goodreads
[ANYTHING by] BECKY DEAN
I’ve seen some good reviews, high praise for Becky’s novels on Instagram and I own one or two by her, so reading one sound be a priority. Goodreads
THE VANISHING STAIR, MAUREEN JOHNSON
Pretty sure I’ve had this one on lists like this many times (and again not a 2024 release date). At this point I should probably just re-read book one and start again. Either way, a reader goal should always be to read subsequent series titles more promptly – there is really no excuse when there are multiple books on shelves already! Goodreads

THE HOUSEMAID, Freida McFadden
Ok, so I’m conflicted about this one. It’s a mystery novel (I think it follows an employee of a wealthy couple who uncovers startling secrets), which I like now and then, but I bought it solely because of hype. Then I think I unhauled it because it didn’t sound like a “me” book. But there is a big screen adaptation set to release in 2025. Have you read it… and is it worth reading? Goodreads
[ANYTHING by] BETH O’LEARY
I’ve been saying for years that I wanted to read something by Beth. Why haven’t I is always the question that I never answer – or perhaps there is no good answer. Goodreads
ONE WRONG MOVE, DANI PETTREY
I always enjoy the mystery novels Dani writes so discovering this, her new (!) series makes me curious. Goodreads
THE MYSTERY GUEST, NITA PROSE
I didn’t love the way The Maid ends, but did like it up until then. So reading the rest of these (and Nita has another coming out this year, too!) is something I really do want to do. Goodreads
BETTER than REVENGE, KASIE WEST
A repeat author for sure around here (but her books are fun) and likely even a repeat title that has gotten a feature here too often, I cannot help but be curious about this one. Also perhaps not fair to include this one since it came out at the very end of 2024. Goodreads

Linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl February 4: 2024 Releases I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To (will you be prioritizing these this year?)
I think a lot of us are in the same boat here!
For sure! :)
I’m hoping to read Truly Devious this year so I hope you’ll love the sequel! Hearts Overboard looks amazing too, I’ll have to look into it :) I hope you’ll enjoy all these books this year!
If you’d like to visit, here’s my TTT: https://thebooklorefairy.blogspot.com/2025/02/top-ten-tuesday-high-priority-reads-for-2025.html
Thanks! I hope to enjoy these as well. I did start (two chapters maybe) Sophie’s so if I finish it, there’s a start. ;) Hope you like Truly Devious; I thought it was a good read.
Beth O’Leary’s books are really good, I hope you enjoy them. Kasie West is also one of the books I wanted to read last year, but it just missed the cut for the post. I still want to read it though!
Hope we both enjoy Kasie’s and THANKS! I’m hopeful I’ll enjoy Beth’s. They seem like great reads. :)
I’m terrible at keeping up with new releases! I’m also terrible at my tbr in general though. I like the sound of several of these though. I had a friend read The Housemaid, and she really liked it, but I haven’t read it. Like you, I’m curious, but not sure if it is really for me. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing about The Housemaid! I think it sounds intriguing but am not sure it’d be something I’d like. Maybe I’ll read it yet. Like you, I’m terrible with a TBR, but I still want to read these. Just haven’t made the time. :)
I also started my list with the ones I own. It’s so hard to read them all right away. I still need to read more by Kasie West. Have a great week!
There are SO many books I own that I bought with the best of intentions and then NEVER did. That needs to be a reader as well as life goal of mine because I go through the phases where I like to “unhaul” and declutter things so it’d be helpful to know more of the books I love on my shelf which I’d accomplish by at least TRYING to read them. ;)
I totally understand that!!
Glad I’m not alone! :)
The Blonde Identity looks like a lot of fun. I hope you can pick up these soon.
I agree. It does look fun. I’m hoping it will be. :)
This is a great list, Rissi! We don’t usually have much overlap on our TBRs, but I have had The Maid by Nita Prose on my TBR since it was an ARC. I just couldn’t get my hands on a copy and then it got lost in the shuffle.
As a reader that is always a challenge isn’t it? Losing those books in the shuffle? I feel like that too happens to me though mostly it’s been with the books I buy and really WANTED to read but then didn’t. :)
