TEN RECOMMENDED BOOKS AMAZON SAYS I’D LIKE

by

I really (really) do like this week’s question (topic) which is asking us to share the books we recommend to others. Much as I like it, it doesn’t work for me. You see I don’t know people to recommend books to, plus I’d probably be a bit self conscious doing so, wondering, will they like it!? I even get this way when someone comments on a review suggesting it [the book featured or reviewed] sounds like something they’d like. I’m always like… but what if they don’t!? It’s silly I know, but it’s a small glimpse into my mind. Anyway, sticking with recommendations, I thought I’d look up a few authors I love on Amazon and see what books Amazon recommends.

Sometimes this retail giant is woefully off and other times I think perhaps they are closer to accurate recommendations. Oddly what I am finding is Amazon seems to know have a “products related to this” section on the item page. Used to be it’d “recommend” books that were similar. Is this the same thing? Or was recommending books somehow triggering the Internet? If it was, there’s another reason to add to my reasons-why-I-cannot-get-back-into-reading. *wink* Let’s jump in and see what we find!

BOOKS AMAZON RECOMMENDS

SHE’S ALL THAT, KRISTIN BILLERBECK because of MEMORY LANE

Becky Wade always writes a compelling story so thinking that Kristin’s novels too could be good reads makes me happy; reason being is I’ve often wanted to read one of her novels. ‘She’ Goodreads • ‘Memory’ Goodreads

FROM THE ASHES, SABRINA FLYNN because of THE BACHELOR GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER

Rachel’s trio of historical novels is such a fun time. I thoroughly enjoyed them, so if there’s more out there that are similar, I’d be interested to try them. Have you read anything by Sabrina? I’m always hesitant to include books by authors I know nothing about. ‘Ashes’ Goodreads • ‘Bachelor’ Goodreads

CHRISTMAS BAGGAGE, DEBORAH M. HATHAWAY because of MEMORY LANE

These Christmas books by a variety of authors were super popular during the Christmas season. Though they have the Christmas Escapes tagline connecting them, I don’t think they are required reading as a series. Knowing this is a rec (if Amazon can be trusted!) for a novel by Becky Wade makes me happy because these books did look fun. ‘Christmas’ Goodreads • ‘Memory’ Goodreads

START WITH ME, KARA ISAAC because of FROM THE START

I read a couple of Kara’s books years ago and do enjoy Melissa’s, so this could be a win! ‘Start with Me’ Goodreads • ‘Start’ Goodreads

BETTING ON THE BOY NEXT DOOR, MELANIE JACOBSON because of THE UPSIDE OF FALLING

While imperfect, The Upside of Falling was (at the time) one of my favorite reads. It was sweet and I’m always impressed when I find a book that lives up to being sweet in today’s climate. I also hear good things about Melanie’s books, so are they worth the read? ‘Boy’  Goodreads • ‘Upside’ Goodreads

A LOVE SO REAL, KIMBERLY RAE JORDAN because of FROM THE START

Once upon a time when I’d go on any kind of fiction search, Kimberley’s books would show up frequently. This time the comparison is to a Melissa Tagg novel, an author I always enjoy. ‘Love’ Goodreads • ‘Start’ Goodreads

REBEL WITH A DONUT, CHRISSY Q MARTIN because of LUCKY IN LOVE

Again we have a feature author I know nothing about. But I had to look up a Kasie West novel and see what came up. ‘Donut’ Goodreads • ‘Lucky’ Goodreads

THINGS WE NEVER GOT OVER, LUCY SCORE because of THE SELECTION (+ THE UPSIDE OF FALLING)

This one recommending itself with The Selection was super odd to me. Though it did also pop up when looking at The Upside of Falling, so… either way, is this one good? ‘Things’ Goodreads • ‘Selection’ Goodreads

WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE, EMILY WIBBERLEY because of THE UPSIDE OF FALLING

I’ve read one of Emily’s (+ her co-author) novels and didn’t LOVE it. Should I give another a chance? ‘Love’ Goodreads • ‘Upside’ Goodreads

THE NEXT WORST THING, SARA JANE WOODLEY because of FROM THE START

Ending on another author I know NOTHING about! Has anyone read this novel by Sara? Would you say she’s similar in style to Melissa? Share all the things! ‘Next’ Goodreads • ‘Start’ Goodreads

Off to you we turn things. Have you read any of these? What books do you recommend the most? Do you recommend? How do you go about recommending? Where do you look for recommendations? Let’s meet in the comments.

    1. They used to set up a bit differently for recommending. Now I think it’s something like “related to this item” when you search something. But either way, this was all I could come up with and stay with the whole “recommending” thing. And it was fun. :) Thanks for visiting!!

    1. Please don’t hesitate to recommend anything, Lydia. I don’t mind when people do for me! I just have don’t for others mainly I don’t have people in my life who read like I did (and want to again) and online, I tend to get in my head and think, “what if they hate this!?” It’s silly, and not something I fuss over in a serious way. ;) But I’m glad to learn about similar books and TOTALLY agree – sometimes Amazon (and I laugh at what Netflix recommends) is WAY off.

  1. This was a fun way to do this topic! I don’t really use Amazon for buying books anymore, well at least not physical books, I still have Audible. When I did, I think the one book it recommended for me that I did buy and really loved was Unwind by Neal Shusterman but I can’t remember what it was I’d been looking at that meant it recommended it for me!

    1. That’s awesome that one of their recs led to a favorite read!! I feel like the Amazon can be really good or off. But either way, this was fun. :) (And same! I don’t buy physical books anymore from Amazon.)

  2. Fun! I did something similar except I used Goodreads’ recommendations feature. Some of the recs are so far off the mark, it’s funny :)

I read very little romance, but I do love Melanie Jacobson. She’s a fun person (I’ve spent some time with her IRL) who writes fun books. They’re cute and clean and uplifting. I would definitely recommend them if you like light, contemporary, closed-door romances. Her newer ones (those that she has self-published) may have some innuendo and a few mild swears, but they’re still sweet and wholesome. I haven’t read BETTING ON THE BOY NEXT DOOR. I’ve read a lot of her others, though.

    Happy TTT!

    1. This is SO cool to know, Susan. Thank you! I see SO many reading and enjoying Melanie’s books so I’m definitely curious especially as someone who does enjoy a fun romance. Also… I agree! Some of the recs are WAY off. I feel this way about Netflix too. ;)
