FAVORITE TV LOVE STORIES WITH A RING (BUT MAYBE NOT I DO!)
In the search for list inspiration, sometimes I lean into the silly. Today is one such day as we see that it’s Fiancé day, and so we got to thinking, what are some of are favorite fiancé TV romances or stories that end with a ring? Not every TV show ends with a ring and often shows go the breakup-get-back-together or just break-up route. And sometimes it’s lovely. This inspired me to wonder about the stories that fall into our favorite engagement TV romances.
LIST | A DREAM IS A WISH YOUR HEART MAKES: THE MANY ‘SNOW WHITE’ MOVIES
FAVORITE TV LOVE STORIES WITH A RING (BUT MAYBE NOT I DO!). A list of #TVCouples that end with a ring… but what about ‘I do’? #GilmoreGirls #TVShows #TVRomances #JaneTheVirgin #ChesapeakeShores Share on XThe parameter for this list is to feature characters that are actually engaged for a time on the show. Not just marry at the end of a long TV episode run. Now, this doesn’t mean that the relationship ends with marriage since some do end up breaking up, but I thought it’d be fun to take a look at some of the romances that involve love stories where the couple can call each other “fiancé” rather than just date and cut (basically) to a wedding. Whether they end happily, well that is another thing altogether. Let’s see how many we can collect.
MEMORABLE and FAVORITE ENGAGEMENT TV ROMANCES
Note; there will be spoilers on this list. Keep this in mind when reading.
ANN MARIE and DONALD from THE GIRL
One of the shows from the 60s, this comedy about a girl who moves to New York and goes through lots of temp jobs in order to support her aspiration of becoming an actress. Along the way she meets Donald, a guy who ends up being her long-term boyfriend and for the final season, her fiancé.

MIC BRUMBY and SARAH MCKENZIE from JAG
Pretty sure very few viewers really were rooting on this as a favorite engagement TV romance between one of JAG’s main characters and the temporarily assigned Australian officer. Mic is not a character I hate, despite him not being a popular character. I think he did love Sarah, and he wasn’t given credit for that. I also think, just like we would cheer on any woman for doing this, that Mic absolutely made the right choice to leave. Just as Sarah deserves someone who loves her, Mic too deserved someone who was all in.
Stream, at publication, on Paramount+ or Prime Video
RICHARD CASTLE and KATE BECKETT from CASTLE
A couple that was universally liked, the novelist and NYPD detective were easily a favorite couple of their TV tenure. The banter and the fun were part of what helped to earn this eight seasons.
Stream, at publication, on Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video or Roku; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video
MICHAEL CORDERO and JANE VILLANUEVA from JANE THE VIRGIN
Pretty sure it was Jane’s other romance that fans liked most. I however did quite like Michael, the guy she was engaged to at the start of this well liked CW dramedy. He may have panicked at the start of this story (about Jane’s unusual pregnancy), but ultimately, he was a cool and good guy who did support her. This is also another of those shows I didn’t watch in full so if I were to watch more, I may change my mind. Tell me, would he disappoint me?

DAVID and JESS from CHESAPEAKE SHORES
The fairy tale romance couple from Hallmark’s familial drama, these two… I do love them. David is so selflessly supportive of Jess even amidst her ups and downs, including the doubts she has about them. He is still there and it’s just a cute and fun romance.

LOGAN ECHOLLS and VERONICA MARS from VERONICA MARS
The ultimate cult classic TV show end game, I’m pretty sure this is a ship that I will always love. However, given what writer’s choose to do in the limited Hulu revival, it’s also a love story I’m quite happy to end with the Veronica Mars. There is no on screen life for them after this based on what I’ve read, and so I don’t seem myself watching that revival on Hulu.
Like many TV romances, Logan and Veronica have many ups and downs, and some may think they’re toxic, but I think Logan matures a lot and I quite like how Jason Dohring plays the role.

EVAN and PAIGE from ROYAL PAINS
These two were always delightful. I loved the mismatched pair from start to finish. They had some ups and downs, and of course misunderstandings, but they’re just so dang cute that the good between them far outweighs the so-so moments. Plus, Brooke D’Orsay as Paige is perfect.
Stream, at publication, select seasons on Hulu; or find entire run on Max and Roku
JOE HACKET and HELEN CHAPEL from WINGS
The engagement scene between these two is a favorite. It’s one of those moments I’d also put on a list of underrated favorite romance scenes, too. It’s unconventional yes, and I’m sure would rub some viewers the wrong way, but I think it’s unique and that is why it’s memorable. I also really wanted these two together despite the big fight that separates them for a time.

Stream, at publication, on Paramount+ or Pluto TV
JACK and MEL from VIRGIN RIVER
Love ‘em or loathe ‘em, Jack and Mel are one of those couple’s that inspire conversation. They’re also a Netflix couple that many (including me) do love. It’s bene a while since I watched the seasons for this show (so yes I am behind and I don’t think I’ve even seen the engagement episode), but based off what I did see, I like them which means I look forward to seeing the rest of the (still in progress) love story.

Stream exclusively with Netflix
KYLE and MANDY from LAST MAN STANDING
These two are so dang cute, and really there isn’t much else to talk about. Kyle is so likable even if he is the gender-swap version of a silly blonde stereotype. He is easily my favorite (or very close to) character on this show. Mandy (who has been played by two actresses over its run) may be surface level shallow and silly, but she ends up having some business acumen. These two are charming and wonderful together.

LORELAI and MAX from GILMORE GIRLS
Not sure if people liked Lorelai with Max, but based off my memory, I did like them together. I thought he was good for her. Though if I were to rewatch it today, maybe I’d have a different opinion. They are obviously not a couple who last, but while they did I was rooting them on.
Stream, at publication, on Hulu or Netflix; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video
LUKE and LORELAI from GILMORE GIRLS
The romance that seems to be end game for this show and the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore, eventually Luke does put a ring on that finger. However, like any show, the engagement isn’t one continuous moment for them.

JAMIE REAGAN and EDDIE JENKO from BLUE BLOODS
This is a fan (and mine) favorite engagement TV romance that ends happily. I cannot remember when they get engaged, but I don’t think Blue Bloods main couple has a long engagement. I know the wedding scene is minimal, but given the show isn’t a romance, I forgive its lack of showing us these key moments. Instead, I admire how the love story does play out because it feels very genuine for the show as well as the characters.
Stream, at publication, on Disney+, Hulu, Netflix or Paramount+; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video
SCHMIDT and CECE from NEW GIRL
I watched seasons of this former sitcom with Zooey Deschanel, and didn’t go back. In the Schmidt character, Max Greenfield (well known among TV aficionados) plays one of Deschanel’s roomies who happens to fall for her stunning bestie. From what I read, theirs is a love story with ups and downs, but it does end with a ring – including the one that has vows!
Stream, at publication, on Hulu and Peacock; or purchase digitally on places like Prime Video
SABRINA SPELLMAN and AARON from SABRINA the TEENAGE WITCH
This is another pairing that doesn’t end with ‘I do,’ but it is one that lasts for a bit. They even make it to the church, white gown and all. But of course, any devoted fan of this show knows that a certain something happens which makes Sabrina feel even happier about her ultimate choice.
