10+ OF THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES THAT FEEL LIKE SUMMER

July is here and while I am not one of those people and don’t ever see myself as being such a person, everyone is giddy over the Christmas in July hype. One of the ways this is encouraged is through networks like Hallmark or GAF re-airing fan and network favorite Christmas movies. Inspired by this and in spite of my lack of love for Christmas during the summer, I thought I’d look into what summer Christmas movies there are. Or even if there are any.

LIST | SUMMER BUCKET LIST – LET’S HAVE A LITTLE FUN!

In all honesty, I had some trouble even finding the titles featured below. But there are a few that fit the idea I had, so let’s meet them – and see what sunshine and Christmas look like together – though in full transparency, I’ve only seen about five from this list.

CHRISTMAS on the BAYOU

on Youtube

Why you Should Watch It: I saw this one years ago, and did quite like it. I even like it a lot more than Hillary Burton’s (the leading lady) more popular Christmas flick. This Lifetime film was filmed in Louisiana and looking at photos sprinkled on the Internet, there is nary a heavy coat in sight.

Where to Stream: Find free, at publication, with Plex or Tubi; or find streaming on Peacock or Prime Video

CHRISTMAS on the COAST

on Youtube

Synopsis: A big-city novelist desperate to save her career returns to her small, coastal hometown hoping to find inspiration during the holidays. – Prime Video

Why you Should Watch It: I did see this one years ago and it was sweet. It says it’s set or filmed in Georgia and is about a New York author who goes South to try and recapture her writer’s voice.

Where to Stream: Find free, at publication, on Plex; or find streaming on Peacock or Prime Video

CHRISTMAS OVERTIME

Synopsis: Promised a commercial by lonely ad exec Robert if she can convince his staff to work on Christmas Eve, out-of-work actress Noel – with a self-absorbed movie star boyfriend filming on location – agrees to convince Robert’s staff to return to work on Christmas Eve after a power outage crashes the office computers and destroys an important proposal and finds herself falling in love with the wrong man. – Night Dove Pictures

Why you Should watch It: I haven’t seen this one, but based on the stills on its production website, there are palm tress and heavy coats are MIA, so if you want something warm and you still love twinkle lights, well this 2024 title may be something to consider.

Where to Stream: Find, at publication, free on Tubi

CHRISTMAS VACATION 2

Synopsis: Golden Globe-winner Randy Quaid reprises his role as the eternal loser Cousin Eddie who gets his own adventure in this newest chapter in the hilarious National Lampoon franchise. – Prime Video

A COWBOY CHRISTMAS ROMANCE

on Youtube

Synopsis: One week before Christmas, a huge business deal sends real estate “closer” Lexie Crenshaw back to a place she swore she’d never return to: her hometown of Tubac, Arizona. – Prime Video

Why you Should Watch It: This one says it’s set in Arizona and based on image, there is lots of outdoor scenes – including some with a shirtless cowboy! If you like “spicy” Christmas flicks, this is also one of the ones making headlines for adding a sex scene. Jana Kramer led this one.

Where to Stream: Find on Hulu, at publication

THE HOLIDAY

Synopsis: A woman plagued by man trouble finds her fortune improves when she befriends an Englishwoman while on vacation. – Prime Video

Photo: Columbia Pictures | Moviestore Collection Ltd / Alamy

Why you Should Watch It: This one is wintery, yes, but the dual setting means we also get to spend part of the film in sunny California with Iris, a Brit who trades homes with American Amanda for the Christmas season. This one seems to be an audience favorite based on its ratings on places like Prime Video.

Where to Stream: Find streaming, at publication, with Netflix; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video

HOLIDAY in the WILD

Synopsis: When Kate’s (Kristin Davis) husband abruptly ends their marriage right before a second honeymoon in Africa, she decides to still go on the trip solo. It’s there that she meets Derek (Rob Lowe). – Netflix

Photo: Netflix | Pictorial Press Ltd / Alamy

Why you Should Watch It: I always meant to watch this and never did. But the setting, for a Christmas title, seems unique and different. In part, because of this, it does look as though it could be a fun flick worth enjoying.

Where to Stream: Find exclusively on Netflix

THE MADAME BLANC MYSTERIES: CHRISTMAS

The Christmas Episode from Season two! on Youtube

Synopsis (Season Three, Episode 1): As Christmas approaches, Judith and Jeremy arrange for the group to attend a murder-mystery night at a hotel with a spooky history. But when an actual murder takes place, a heavy rainstorm traps Jean inside with all the suspects. – Prime Video

Synopsis (Season Four, Episode 1): Jean and Dom investigate when a puppeteer is murdered after a Christmas Eve performance at a Sainte Victoire market. Meanwhile, Judith receives a card from a former bridesmaid that contains a disturbing truth about her marriage. – Acorn TV

Why you Should Watch It: I haven’t seen the season four Christmas special yet, which drops this coming Monday the 7th, but the earlier seasons of this show, which is set in Sainte Victoire, and is, as the presser states, “packed with unusual antiques and objéts d’art, murder, mystery, sunshine and laughter.” Sunshine being the key word here! It’s always an apt description based on prior seasons, and earlier years have Christmas specials, too! A quick search also calls weather in Sainte Victoire during December as “mild,” which I’m using as proof that this special will have a feel of summertime to it.

Where to Stream: Stream seasons one – three now on Acorn TV; and watch for season four (begin streaming) aka this Christmas special to drop on the streamer Monday July 7th.

MEET ME in ST. LOUIS

Synopsis: Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien star in this heartwarming tale of the emotional trauma the colorful members of an early 20th century St. Louis family experience when they learn their father has been transferred and they’ll have to move to New York. – Prime Video

Credit: MGM / Alamy Stock Photo

Why you Should Watch It: This is far from a Christmas exclusive film, and the Christmas scenes in this one are about snow and bundled coats, but there are also some really nice scenes of the other seasons including summer, so the film feels kind of like the “best” of both worlds.

Where to Stream: Find, at publication, with HBO Max; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video

OPERATION CHRISTMAS DROP

on Youtube

Synopsis: While gathering evidence to support closing a tropical U.S. Air Force base, a congressional aide warms to its generous captain. – Netflix Media

Why you Should Watch It: This is a fun story and while not the most romantic or perhaps Christmas-like of those on this list, the film is still a nice watch and one I actually wouldn’t mind seeing again.

Where to Stream: Find exclusively on Netflix

  1. It’s funny how I can’t seem to read or watch books/movies that don’t fit the season I am in! But I am keeping these in mind for winter!

    1. I 100% prefer Christmas books or films at Christmas. But SO many people love Christmas in July so I thought I’d try to find some Christmas movies that had Christmas in them but the setting (like a beach) was more summer-like. :)
