At the end of the week, our “silly holiday” calendar tells us that it’s opposite day. Inspired by this, we decided to translate this into films or stories about characters who swap lives. I really cannot imagine there being a more “opposite” kind of day then walking in the shoes of someone else. I’m not sure if there are enough out there to curate an interesting list, however we’re still going to look at what we find and hope there’s some that are, well, fun stories and characters to feature.

FAMILY SWITCH
Characters: Jess and CC, Bill and Wyatt
Jennifer Garner leads the cast in this about a family who swap lives. The father and son switch and Garner’s mother and her daughter switch. While there are shenanigans in both cases, it’s Jess and CC who I find funniest. Especially the going to work together day they share.

FREAKY FRIDAY
Characters: Tess and Anna Coleman, Mrs. Andrews and Annabel
Mother and daughter swap lives in this classic comedy. Jamie Less Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play Tess and Anna in the 2003 version while the earlier Disney version has Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster playing the mother and Annabel.

Characters: Amanda Lemmon and Alyssa Callaway
A wealthy pianist protégé swaps lives with her lookalike, Amanda who is a foster kid, in this 90s comedy that features Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Wealthy and with a face everyone knows, a model decides to try and live a quieter life when she meets someone who could act as her doppelganger. characters who swap lives

THE PARENT TRAP
Characters: Annie and Hallie Parker
Another film that has Lindsay Lohan swap lives. Only in this version, there is no supernatural element. Instead it follows two girls who discover they are twins whose parents separated them when they divorced.

Character: Stacy and Margaret
In this Netflix seasonal flick, Vanessa Hudgens plays two characters who happen to share the same face, but are questioning their lives. As a result the talented baker Stacy swaps lives with the prim and proper duchess Margaret.

WISH upon a STAR
Characters: Alexia and Hayley Weaton
I saw this one years ago and don’t remember much but I think it was sweet. It follows sisters who live in the others shoe when the younger wishes she could become her popular older sister. A pre-fame Katherine Heigl stars.
