‘THE CHRISTMAS WAGER’ IS REALLY FUN BOOK ABOUT GAMES

STORY: Working for a high-end real estate company is what Bella does. From a small town, she adapts to the city and is putting in her best work with a career advancement goal in the plan. She has a chance to earn a promotion when her boss sends her to a small town in Colorado. There she is supposed to acquire a small seasonal family shop that is struggling.

With a strict budget and a task to get the job done, Bella initially thinks negotiations are going well until the owner’s grandson enters the conversation.

THE CHRISTMAS WAGER book review

REVIEW: Though I always have good intentions about reading Christmas fiction, I rarely do. Probably because Christmas is the only time of year I want to read said genre and the season’s routines sometimes make reading impossible. This is a title I started prior to Christmas and then finished reading in January. Penned by a new to the genre name (she has written under other names), it’s fully acceptable to admit that The Christmas Wager is a fun time.

‘THE CHRISTMAS WAGER’ IS REALLY FUN BOOK ABOUT GAMES. Review of the contemporary Holly Cassidy novel about a competitive business deal!

The story trope of corporation vs small business isn’t a new one but when you add in some competition, well, silliness ensues. Some of the game challenges are a little crazy while others are unique and fitting. The town reads very Hallmark-esque with its quaint shops and overly (as least sometimes) protective townspeople. As a lead character, I did like Bella. She’s got some layers albeit as a whole, the novel isn’t complicated but is instead something that matches its cover art. I also like Jesse who is (again) a very Hallmark “type.” He’s protective of what and who he loves, and the sparring between him and Bella is (mostly) cute.

Any reader who loves this subgenre or reads with a festive bent will likely enjoy this. There are some flop moments or tropes (like the get-mad-at-each-other) that don’t work, but it’s overall a book you can wager on and come away a winner!

The Christmas Wager Book Review Content: there is some profanity in this PG-13 like book and minor innuendo too. There is some sex conversation and implication that a couple has sex together.
