‘BLIND DATING’ IS ONE OF CHRIS PINE’S EARLY ROLES
One of the “normal” romantic comedies of its era, Blind Dating is, overall, pretty cute.
Blind Dating (2006) Film Review
For his entire life, Danny (Chris Pine) has never known what having sight is like. But now there is a chance, slim though it is, that he may finally see… well, something. An experimental surgery that will offer him shadows or shapes, maybe a face, becomes a possibility that he may be a good candidate for, and so, the tests begin.
His family also believes that the 22-year-old Danny needs to find someone. And so, his brother Larry (Eddie Kaye Thomas) begins to find a woman for his brother. Thing is, Larry is looking for someone who will be a fling, while Danny, no matter his lack of dating experience, wants a relationship. A series of bad dates later, and Danny begins to enjoy his time with Leeza (Anjali Jay), the receptionist at his doctor’s office and the girl who doesn’t treat him different.

Before he was Captain Kirk or any of the other memorable roles he appeared as, Chris Pine led this comedy, which is one of his first big roles. For the role and character, Pine does a nice job with Danny, and he plays him as undeniably likeable. The film also features Anjali Jay (which I saw in BBC’s Robin Hood), and she too plays an easy to like character. Seeing Thomas in this was a good surprise (he would later go on to appear in Scorpion) and Jane Seymour also pops up. You’ll see other stars from TV shows like Covert Affairs or American Housewife, too.
When all is said and done, Blind Dating is, quite simply, just a fun time. There isn’t anything “big” or important or “must see” about the film, but if you want a laugh, then this is worth seeing. There are some really funny situations, but like any “silly” comedy, the film also has some more valuable takeaways too. I don’t think there is enough screen time with Jay and Pine, but since the film is about more than just that friendship, I let it go.
If you just want something that will make you giggle, but also values its characters, then Blind Dating is a fun title to hit that “play” button for.

Content: there are some jokes about sex and questions about whether someone has had sex. A couple is in the back of a limbo getting their “sexy” on (we only hear them). A woman tries to entice a man who running her foot up and down her date’s leg, eventually her foot ends up between his legs on the chair. A woman does a “strip tease” for a man (she undresses and is wearing lingerie). A man pretends to not know how to use a condemn. There is an F-word. The film is PG-13.
