‘THE ASSASSIN’: ONE INTERESTING THRILLER SET IN GREECE
A new high-stakes action series, The Assassin is pieces of different thrillers and it’s really good if you like a solid mystery. It also, partly, takes place in Greece!
The Assassin (2025) AMC TV Show Review
Living a quiet life has now for many years been the life of Julie (Keeley Hawes). She raised a son, and she now lives in the picturesque Greece, and it would seem like life should be ideal. Thing is, it’s not. Julie is a bit of a mess, and her adult son Edward (Freddie Highmore) has a life she isn’t a part of and more importantly, he has questions. He wants to know more about his background, which are questions Julie seems unable to answer or refuses to. His persistence causes secrets to be unveiled, and the dangerous choices of her past come back to haunt her.
This sends the estranged mother and son on a journey where they must fight to survive.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘KAREN PIRIE,’ SERIES TWO: SHE INVESTIGATES A NEW COLD CASE
‘THE ASSASSIN’: ONE INTERESTING THRILLER SET IN GREECE. #KeeleyHawes stars in #TheAssassin. #AMC #TVShow #Mystery #Thriller Share on XA fast-paced show that has, surprisingly, some wit and humor, The Assassin is interesting. It’s kind of a character portrait in one way and the rest is a curious mystery that threatens these characters. The actors playing them turn out good performances too and I like seeing Keeley Hawes in something again and though I haven’t really seen Freddie Highmore in anything as an adult, I do think he’s good too. We also see Alan Dale and Gina Gershon and the rest of the cast is good too.

The show is very Jason Bourne-esque but with a clearer and hopefully more interesting plot, too. As a thriller, I think this show is quite brilliant. I found it intriguing and certainly compelling because I did want to know more. If I’m not mistaken, the show has already been renewed for a second season too. So, we’ll get more of these characters, and I think they have more to share and give.
If you like spy characters like Jason Bourne or James Bond, I think you’ll find The Assassin interesting. As I mentioned, it weirdly has some humor which helps to lighten the serious tone of the concept and story which is death and people being in constant danger.

Content: the likes the F-word. There is plenty of violence too; the series opens on one person killing an entire group of men (they are shot, and there is some hand-to-hand combat). A sniper shoots up an event. We see anyone and everyone go down from the bullets; blood does fly everywhere, too. We visit a prison too where prisoners are threatened.
