‘MARBLE HALL MURDERS’ IS ONE LAST CASE OF THE BEST BOOK EDITOR!
Another case awaits everyone’s favorite book editor as we solve Marble Hall Murders with Susan Ryeland (Lesley Manville). This time we find Susan, still with her professional freedom intact, return to England where a 1955 Corfu mystery may await her. Believing she has left behind her mystery solving days, which are often led by a series of detective novels she once edited, Susan now works freelance on editing jobs. Her latest job connects back to that famous detective, and a former murderer she caught.
Accompanied by the fictional Inspector Atticus Pünd (Tim McMullan), the detective inside the pages of these books, Susan is again visited by him when another case mirroring Pünd’s world lands on her doorstep.

Social media promotes Marble Hall Murder as the final Ryeland story. This then reminded me that I never finished watching the episodes from season one let alone any of season two. Naturally, I remedied this and had a work and binge watch session that resulted in finally marking these seasons as “complete.” The stories are good and while they won’t suit everyone, I confess that I do find the two timeline mysteries interesting, as he, through his stories, helps Susan solve her contemporary case. The period shift won’t be something everyone likes, but I think the pacing and building of the mysteries is quite good.

The cast is also always good, too and while McMullan and Manville return in each episode, the show swaps out the cast for the new characters and suspects. A cast that also often plays at least two characters in the past and present. This season brings in Patricia Hodge (whom we love from All Creatures Great and Small), Harry Lloyd and returning as Katie (Susan’s sister) is Claire Rushbrook. I’d be lying if I said the exclusion of one character didn’t make me sad, but I can also admit that the show is still entertaining.
Behind the scenes is also writer Anthony Horowitz who is well-known (and in my viewer perspective, quite good) in TV writing. If you like puzzles or British mysteries don’t miss Marble Hall Murders. It’s not a series that requires you see its prior two series (Magpie Murders, Moonflower Murders), but the characters are a bit richer having seen them and of course, you get to see more fun stories unfold.
