Just Add Romance – Friends Makes for a Perfect Recipe of Love

by

With its new-to-Hallmark leading lady and a cute plot, those of us who love this network are sure to again find another charming rom-com in the recipe that is Just Add Romance.

Just Add Romance (2019) Hallmark Review

Living under the shadow of her successful and perfectionist father is not something Carley (Meghann Fahy) enjoys. Despite this, she’s determined to make a success of her own career as a chef. This could be made possible if she were to win the Kitchen Showdown TV show. The prize to the winning contestant is the capital to open their own restaurant. It’s a recipe that seems perfect.

Perfect until Carley discovers Jason (Luke Macfarlane) is also a contestant on the show. Jason and Carley were once in culinary school together, and just as their friendship might have become something more, Jason disappears. Now, three years later, they are again sharing a kitchen, only this time its in competition.

As the gap between their Valentine’s Day line up, and spring, Hallmark fills in with three independent romances. All of which are sure to char; Just Add Romance is one of them. This is one of those I didn’t now much about. Sure its promo images and poster were cute, but I hadn’t seen a trailer, nor did I know much beyond a short synopsis paragraph.

Just Add Romance

Despite this, I made sure it had the space it’d need on the DVR. The story is a familiar one with its competing leads, plus it’s set in a culinary world, but nonetheless, this one is darling. It features a leading man who is no stranger to Hallmark originals, and also one I find I like. Then there’s its leading lady. New to the network, Meghann will be familiar to those of you who watch Freeform’s The Bold Type.

Like anything else you’ll find with Hallmark’s brand, this story is all about the charm. I don’t have strong feelings one way or another about the chemistry between the leads, but I do like their characters. They’re both fun people with the opposing personalities to pull off a convincing romance, and also, I appreciate the fact that they have a past. This makes their present love story all the more watchable.

Those of us who enjoy this genre of wholesome romcom will find Just Add Romance adds plenty of sweetness to a night in.
