‘MY BIRTHDAY ROMANCE’: JESSE HUTCH STARS IN THE CUTE UPTV MOVIE
A Reel One Entertainment Canadian comedy, this title uses the fake dating trope. In this scenario we meet Callie (Ali Corbin), a successful 30-something whose family is a little bit obsessed with her dating life. Her parents and happily married sister make every attempt to set her up, which is never a successful outing. Soon as she can get away from the many awkward set-ups, it’s always her younger brother, Kyle who helps bail her out. Tonight after another such situation at Sunday’s family dinner, Kyle talks her into having a drink with his friends. my birthday romance
During this social outing, Callie meets Will (Jesse Hutch), another single who feels much the same as she does. Unable to take the constant pushing of her family, inspiration strikes and Callie decides Will would make the ideal faux mate. Of course, this is just to get her through to her unwanted birthday party, and hopefully allow her some peace from family meddling.
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘LOVE IS A PIECE OF CAKE’: A FUN SINGLE DAD ROM COM
This concept is familiar in the world of TV romance or fictional novels. It’s always a favorite and when done well, it’s pretty dang cute. For the most part, I did enjoy this version, but honestly, the end is way too dramatic. There’s a whole scene of confession, and it’s done in a way that’s one of my most grating tropes (in front of a crowd). It feels so silly, especially as theses guests aren’t the people you need to be honest with.
That said, My Birthday Romance is, like anything in its peer group, another cute story. There’s some nice outdoor scenes and I do love how Will (a tribute to good acting) grows to like Callie. Helping this is their conversation, all of which seems more mature and real in comparison to some of the other TV films. It’s always fun to see Jesse Hutch in another romance like this, though I don’t think I’ve seen Ali Corbin in much if anything, she too is good.
If you’re someone who enjoys these easy and sweet TV romance titles, this is another one you can add to the list.
