FAVORITE COUPLES FROM 2021 CHRISTMAS ROMANCE MOVIES

Everyone has a different opinion on the “who” is best, but if there’s one thing we probably all universally agree on, it’s that we love a good romance pairing in a TV movie. I may not have watched as many in 2021, but I still saw a fair share of the titles, and so today, I’m sharing a few of my top favorite pairs who played would-be couples or exes. Because we can still keep a bit of Christmas going, amiright!? Let’s chat about favorite romance couples in Christmas movies 2021, because we want to.

Some – or maybe none, of these won’t surprise you if you’ve been following around here for a long time. Or maybe they will. Either way, this is just a fun little thing because we all like a good romantic couple lead. They, in my book, have the ability to make or break a romantic comedy, and some of the ones we get on Hallmark are actually really very good.

Let’s meet them, shall we?

FAVORITE ROMANCE COUPLES IN CHRISTMAS MOVIES 2021

From least to most favorite!

7: LARA AND BEN from THE CHRISTMAS CONTEST

Played by CANDACE CAMERON BURE AND JOHN BROTHERTON

Ok, I’ll be honest, my bias is maybe showing a bit here since I don’t think this is my most favorite pair up for Candace. Odd since honestly, I did root for her and the character Brotherton played on their sitcom Fuller House. That said, there’s a certain authenticity to their banter in that it’s a little bit “harsh” at times rather than cute, all of which is spurned on by the hard feelings of their past. Still… I have a soft spot for this couple and film, which I think wasn’t treated fairly.

6: CLARA AND LOGAN from FIVE MORE MINUTES

Played by NIKKI DELOACH AND DAVID HAYDN-JONES

This chemistry or pairing isn’t “all the fireworks” but I like its authenticity. It operates with a former sweetheart premise so that characters do know one another which helps everything seem more genuine. favorite romance couples in christmas movies 2021

5: CHRIS AND VANESSA from MY CHRISTMAS FAMILY TREE

Played by ANDREW WALKER AND AIMEE TEEGARDEN

These two aren’t my most (most) favorite together, but individually I like them and I do like them fine in this one. There’s just no real standout spark between them. That said this story is super unique for its market and I appreciate the scenes they do share. Another pro, the “meet cute” is ordinary and that’s its own kind of special.

4: MADELINE AND RYAN from A CHRISTMAS STAR

Played by SARA CANNING AND DANIEL LISSING

I’ve liked Sara Canning in any TV film she’s been in. Or those I’ve seen. She has a likable quality in her acting that’s just easy and fun to watch. Plus, this romance feels more genuine and realistic. There’s a deeper purpose to their interaction and while the “break up” is a little too cliché (meaning it’s silly), mostly there’s more here and the actors plays it as a kind of I-really-do-like-you scenario and that’s a breath of fresh air.

3: JAKE AND CASSIE from A DICKENS OF A HOLIDAY!

Played by KRISTOFFER POLAHA AND BROOKE D’ORSAY

Love these two separately and they’re pretty dang good together. In fact, outside of her Royal Pains co-star, this may be one of the better actors I’ve seen Brooke play opposite. They have a nice connection and I appreciate the quiet moments the script and film allows then. Plus, the writers get the “leaving” aspect of this story right. It allows love to be the driving force on both sides without showing one leaving for the idea of something “more.” The end does leave some things a little up in the air just because we don’t learn how everything shakes out, but that’s part of the good, too since we can imagine what we want.

2: LEAH AND DREW from A VERY MERRY BRIDESMAID

Played by EMILY OSMENT AND CASEY DEIDRICK

Love Emily Osment! She’s an actress with a lot of humor in her talent pool, and it usually works. Here it also does as she’s good in the role of a woman about to turn 30 on not only Christmas Eve, but this year her brother’s wedding. I also just really like her with a new-Hallmark-face, Casey; they share a likable and simple connection.

1: EMILY AND BEN from AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS

Played by BETHANY JOY LENZ AND TYLER HYNES

As Tyler and Bethany are separately two of my favorites, and for this, they pair for the first time, I was quite excited to see this one. I saved it as one of the last and ended up LOVING them. Whether it’s a stern wake up call or their banter, they’re good and it helps that the actors themselves also have a good acting repertoire. Oh, yeah, and for those that like it, this is the fake dating trope with the one flaw of being TOO DRAMTIC in its “break up.” Apart from this, they’re golden.

  1. Jake and Cassie from A Dickens of a Holiday were my faves this year. Have you seen her opposite Marc Blucas in Miss Christmas? That’s another favorite I’ve re-watched every year.

    1. I did see “Miss Christmas”! I cannot remember what I thought of her with Marc (who I like!), but I don’t think I loved the plot. Now I should really re-watch that one because I 100% loved Brooke and Kristoffer in this. It’s the same typical Hallmark, but also the film felt REALLY different. Hope Hallmark continues to produce more like this. :)

  2. These look fun! I haven’t watched any Hallmark Christmas movies but I have heard good things about Love Hard, which is on Netflix I think, and we watched Home Alone for the 1000 th time haha over Christmas (not a rom- com I know but such a classic).

    Happy Nw Year Rissi!

    1. I didn’t get to “Love Hard.” I thought it sounded super fun when I first read about it, but then I saw some things on social media that just didn’t sound great, and so I never watched it. I probably will sometime. Let me know if you saw and liked it, Greg – and thanks! Happy New Year to you as well. :)
