A SUPER LATE BUT COLORFUL SUMMER BOOK READING LIST!
When it comes to seasonal or “national day…” lists, most the time I’m fully running behind. It’s like part of my DNA. However it is TECHNICALLY still summertime and so I decided to round up a few summer-y reads. Yes that’s right, I’m sharing a late (very) summer reading list of books from my shelf that seem like good summer reads.
LIST | A SHORT & FUN SUMMER MOVIES LIST YOU MAY WANT TO SEE
When it comes to summertime reading, since people travel and go to the beach, it seems like so many of the books are contemporary. There’s even novels centered on beach-y themes and the like. So without further ado, let’s look at some of the summertime reader options on my shelf, and maybe a couple I have actually read, too!
A VERY LATE SUMMER READING LIST
The books on my shelf
LOVE AND OTHER GREAT EXPECTATIONS, BECKY DEAN
This is a new contemporary read that I haven’t read yet, but the concept sure sounds cute. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction

Seems like pretty much anything by Sarah Dessen would be a good summer-y read. Adding this title because I did start reading it in the hopes I’d then watch the adaptation. Haven’t done that yet, but we still have a few summer days left to squeeze that in. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
DON’T DATE ROSA PARKS, NINA MORENO
Another one (surprise of all surprises) I still haven’t read as it sits on my shelf! However, the cover is just too ideal not to include, plus its plot, surrounding a girl who believes she’s cursed when it comes to dating, is a fun one, too! Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
SUNNY SONG WILL NEVER BE FAMOUS, SUZANNE PARK
Not sure how this book reads (more serious or funny), but the title is cute if nothing else. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
THE MATCHBREAKER SUMMER, ANNIE RAINS
Coming from Underlined, this is TOTALLY something that seems to scream summer! Plus, though I haven’t heard of this author before, I’ve loved everything else I read in this Underlined paperback collection of fiction. This title follows a girl helping her parents run a summer camp. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
TACOS FOR TWO, BETSY ST. AMANT
Honestly don’t remember which season this is set in, but it’s all about trying to make a food truck business work and that just feels summer-y. Goodreads

I did read this one and it’s cute. But then probably any of Jenna’s books would be a good summertime read. This one takes place primarily in Greece, and is just a sweet and fun little adventure contemporary. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
SUNKISSED, KASIE WEST
If you like sweet romances and don’t mind that it’s in the young adult genre, no one does this better than Kasie West. This one is about a family who goes on a trip together only for their teen daughters to kind of flip out when they learn there’s – gasp! – no WiFi. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
The Summer Reading that Looks Cute (aka Not on my Shelf)
THE PARIS CONNECTION, LORAINE BROWN
I mean we all love the idea of a little armchair summer adventure-ing right? Not sure how this book would read but it follows a woman stuck in Paris for the day. Goodreads
Note: this is secular adult fiction
SUMMER DAYS AND SUMMER NIGHTS: TWELVE LOVE STORIES
Edited by Stephanie Perkins, this novella collection is one I never read. I’m sure there’d be stories I didn’t read or some I did but didn’t care for, but I enjoyed some of the stories I read in the Christmas collection this publishing and editor team released. Goodreads
Note: this is secular YA fiction
A SWEETHAVEN SUMMER, COURTNEY WALSH
Courtney’s Nantucket novels are really sweet so this novel, which she has republished I am sure is the same. Plus, how can you read that title and not immediately think of summertime? Goodreads
