POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FIFTY: THINGS CELEBRITIES AND POLITICIANS SAY
Hey, hey! We’re here, it’s Friday. This week I didn’t find any “big stories” that I want to separate and talk a lot about. Therefore, we’re going in with a more “round up” version of this weekly installment series. It’s slimmer than I wanted and because there’s not read stories that I want to expand on, we’re going the condensed route today. pop culture news edition fifty

If you’re one of the people stilling watching the now Disney+ reality show Dancing with the Stars, you probably saw that it announced its cast. Among the more notable things is the return of pro dancer Mark Ballas and the celebrity cast will consist of stars like Selma Blair, Wayne Brady, Cheryl Ladd, Charli D’Amelio, and for Hallmark fans, you’ll see Jordin Sparks and Trevor Donovan.
Yesterday the Queen, Elizabeth II passed away. The queen was 90 years old, and sat on England’s throne for 70 years, and through those years, MANY actresses stepped into her shoes for multiple TV shows or films.
BBC is going to adapt Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. The novels tell the story of a high schooler who starts to look into the murder of a girl from a few years earlier, and the possibility that the person they blame isn’t the real killer. The book has since been on the NYT best-seller list.
Disney just released their teaser for the May 2023 release of their live action The Little Mermaid. You can find it on their Instagram page (link in text). Tell me, will this be on your good or bad live action list? I’ve liked most that I’ve seen in the live action offerings so I’m hopeful this one goes there to. Do you think it looks promising? Yes, I did add this paragraph as a quick add on after seeing the teaser.
For a Christmas “event” film (what does this mean?), Amazon Prime is pairing Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson with Kiernan Shipka in Red One. Most everything about this is hush-hush, but it is (so far) described as a “globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”
Drew Barrymore just launched a new podcast called Drew’s News. It reads that it will be Barrymore and a guest breaking down “latest quirky stories of the week, from the newest interior design trend, Barbiecore, to the right and wrong ways to wash your armpits.” Will you listen?
Selena Gomez officially announced (after rumors) her Apple original documentary My Mind and Me. The doc is said to chronicle her life from early days to limelight.
Former NCIS star Pauly Perrette revealed recently that in 2021 she almost died of a stroke.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez interviewed with GQ making statements that this country hates women, which is what most chatter has been about. Totally disagree with her opinion about this though I’m sure I know the “why” of her saying this. What I find odder is when talking about the future she says she “can’t even tell you if I’m going to be alive in September.” Like, what? WHAT does she mean? Is she saying her life is in danger because people hate women? Of course no one of us knows the future, but saying this in an interview when talking about what she represents to young girls? It just sounds off. I will say, don’t shift something because you may not have the ability to recognize how fortunate you are.
Though I do think they’ve been floating around for a while, teasers for the upcoming December release of Knives Out 2: Glass Onion are making the rounds as are some teaser images too. Will you be tuning in and watching Daniel Craig return in this Agatha Christie-esque mystery?
Jane Fonda shared that she is undergoing treatment for cancer. She later followed up saying she feels “stronger” than she has in years. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Going political, Jennifer Lawrence also gave an interview and full photoshoot to Vogue. She said she’s had to try and heal, and in part, as reaction to her family. Referencing their different opinions and Kentucky lifestyle, she further says, “I’ve tried to get over it and I really can’t. I can’t. I’m sorry I’m just unleashing, but I can’t [f*ck] with people who aren’t political anymore. You live in the United States of America. You have to be political. It’s too dire. Politics are killing people.”
