‘RECIPES FOR LOVE AND MURDER’ IS FUN, QUIRKY AND PIOGNANT ACORN DRAMA
New British drama is something I’m always curious to read about. Whether I’ll watch it remains to be seen. However Recipes for Love and Murder is one I did look into. Here’s what it’s all about.
Recipes for Love and Murder (2022) Acorn TV Review
Writing a recipe column for the small-town publication where she lives is the very heart of Tannie Maria (Maria Doyle Kennedy). She loves what she does and it means she brings baked goods into her office. When she learns her column is to be cut, her boss gives the opportunity to continue writing. Catch is it’s an advice column and she must compete with sassy investigative journalist and co-worker, Jessie (Kylie Fisher) for the new advice column. Mixing her own life experience, but mostly her baking, Tannie writes a column that garners clicks and attention.
Her relief is short though when the local police begin to investigate the murder of a woman, a woman to whom Tannie’s first advice column was written to.
TV SERIES REVIEW | THE ‘SISTER BONIFACE MYSTERIES,’ SERIES ONE IS ALL CUTE & COZY
🥯🪓🏍️‘RECIPES FOR LOVE AND MURDER’ IS FUN, QUIRKY AND PIOGNANT ACORN DRAMA 🏍️🪓🥯MARIA DOYLE KENNEDY STARS IN #ACORNTV DRAMA. #NEWTV #BRITISHDRAMA #GOODTV #NEWSHOWS Share on XA ten-episode run, Recipes for Love and Murder is without question, one of those quirky but entertaining shows. The opening is hilarious and effective, and adding to this is actual opening credits. (A creative aspect few shows seem to use anymore, which I think is kind of a sign of creative laziness; credits add that creative completeness.) Another thing I adore about this show is all the pink inside Tannie’s office. It’s cheerful and eye catching plus just makes me happy.
Beyond this, the show is more. Its leading lady reminds me of someone I used to know given how well they liked her in another show. Maria does a great job in this role, and though I’ve only watched episode one in full, we already know that there is more to Maria’s life and question, what is her past? It’s fabulous how well the writers set this up and makes the viewer curious to see or discover what’s to come. The rest of the cast is really good, and it’s surprising to see this is Fisher’s first film or TV role. She’s not only a good character (in this way she reminds me of Madison from My Life is Murder), but she’s also good as a performer.
The structure or “acts” of this is unusual and, in some ways, more personal. All of which I think is intentional. Because Tannie reads letters from those seeking advice, the camera focuses on their face, and it’s them reading us the letter. This makes things more personal and impacts the viewer more. However, I do think the baking scene of Tannie’s first letter goes overlong. I understand its purpose, but it does drag.
Everything to say, this is an interesting and fabulously well produced show. It’s quirky, but then this is part of the brand of any Acorn TV show, just in varying degrees. Either way, this newest addition starts off strong.

Sincere thanks to Acorn TV for the chance to screen ‘Recipes for Love and Murder.’ All opinions are mine.
Content: Implications suggests there is abuse. A person’s wrist is grabbed, and there’s a plate thrown. Someone murders pets. There is two same sex relationships, if this bothers you. (One in episode one, though one person says they keep it “platonic” and another in episode two.) The series would have a TV-14 rating (so far).
