CHARACTERS WHO TAKE A MEMORABLE VACATION (SOMETHING I NEVER DO!)

Back when I’d film videos and even in various written posts, I used to talk about the fact that I do nothing exciting. This is true. Up until this past August, it had been a good fifteen years since I’d gone on any kind of trip other than a 45-minute drive to the city for some shopping, and mostly, I just focus on work things. This is why curating any kind of list about books I read on a vacation is pretty impossible. However, if I have to guess, I’d say there are lots of characters who vacation residing on my bookshelf. As a result, I had to say, why not feature them?

LIST | YES I STILL LOVE ‘AUSTENLAND.’ HERE’S EIGHT IMPORTANT REASONS WHY

Honestly, perhaps “trips” is more of the proper term for this list considering some of our picks are characters who have a kind of emotional reason for leaving. That said, I suspect in some of these there are still some good times and for more of a mainstream, easier SEO approach, we’re calling it vacation. From trips that perhaps turn into something more permanent to more extravagant vacations, let’s see who we can meet that falls into the vacation camp of characters, shall we?

CHARACTERS WHO VACATION

THE BRIDGE, LISA T. BERGREN

This is one of those that sounds super emotional. Follows a set up where two people die in an accident, and years later, the lone survivor along with their child revisits the area where this happened. Goodreads

THE PARIS CONNECTION, LORAINE BROWN

I mean we all love the idea of a little armchair summer adventure-ing right? Not sure how this book would read but it follows a woman stuck in Paris for the day. Goodreads

LOVE & OTHER GREAT EXPECTATIONS, BECKY DEAN

This one just looks fun. Those doodles and the concept, just fun. Plus the title too is cute. Goodreads

AUSTENLAND, SHANNON HALE

I mean a woman heading to a kind of Austen-esque experience? Sounds fun, plus if the film adaptation (I haven’t read the novel yet) is anything to go off, our leading heroine is relatable. Goodreads

A GIRL’S GUIDE TO THE OUTBACK, JESSICA KATE

Ok, so maybe Kimberley Foster isn’t exactly vacationing when she travels to Australia, but she is chasing a guy (even if she doesn’t know it yet), so all in all, the concept is still fun. Goodreads

LOVE YOUR LIFE, SOPHIE KINSELLA

Heading to Italy in this novel with our character Ava. Also, I’ve never read a Sophie Kinsella novel… am I missing out? Goodreads

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT, MORGAN MATSON

This isn’t the normal “travel” tale, but it is about two girls who make a trip to New York City, so we’re calling this a lazy pick and a win. Goodreads

PARIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA, JEN MCKINLEY

This one has been on my bookshelf for a while, and I think I’ve seen it make Jana’s list a few times when fitting. Needless to say, the title is charming so I’m curious. Goodreads

As always, thanks for being here! I’m working to visit your lists and spaces more promptly, but if I don’t, my apologies. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and visit here. Thank you.

Which of these characters have you met? Do you vacation?? Would you visit any of these places they did? Or have you? Which of these books have you read? Comment all the comments in the comment section. Let’s talk.

Thank you for visiting; please do come back soon.

    1. Good to know! I have the one on this list by Sophie and maybe one or two others. Plus I adore contemporary reads, so why I haven’t yet read anything by her… well, that I cannot explain. Thanks for visiting, Emily!

    1. I haven’t read the book but I love the film! It makes me laugh. And good news for me, the book seems really short which is my favorite kind of fiction. :)

  1. As you said on my page, some topics don’t work for us and we must find a way around it. You found a great one. I haven’t read any of your books but I agree with Jen McKinley: Paris is always a good idea.

Thanks for visiting my My TTT this week which is all about travel books.

    1. Jen’s sounds like a REALLY fun read. I just have to make the time to read hers among many other titles, too! Here’s hoping they’re good reads once finally I make the time. :) Thank you for visiting here, Marianne. I appreciate this.

  2. The nice thing about books is that we can travel all over the place, even places that don’t actually exist, without ever leaving the comfort of our homes. We don’t have to deal with crowds, inclement weather, empty wallets, long lines, jetlag, etc., and we still get to have an fun, exciting, interesting “vacation” away from ordinary life. Not a bad thing at all!

    Happy TTT (on a Thursday)!

  3. It’s been a busy week and I’m finally getting around to return visits – thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. This seems to be a week that caused lots of “twist” posts and they were all so interesting. Yet still had to do with vacations. Yours is no exception – interesting sounding books.

    1. I literally never go anywhere outside of a day trip (my summer trip this year is the first I’ve been on in over ten years) so it would be tough for me to list vacation reads. I love the idea though. :) Thank you for the return visit, Terrie.
